White threatened to cut Silva from the UFC if he fights the same way he did in his last bout in Abu Dhabi at UFC 112. "I'm telling you right now, if he acts like that again in the ring, I will cut him," said White. "I don't care if he's the pound for pound best fighter in the world. I don't care if he's the middleweight champion."

I can beat a lot of people in th ufc. watching those chicken fights, is a waste of time. getting on top of each other is so gay. when you can jus knock the hell out of them. because when you have real power you don't have to do all that. i know all of that wrestling shit. i was born to fight. it's in my blood . that's how i know i'll fight to kill. that's how it should be, you'll never lose. you couldn't even convince nor pay me enough to let someone whip my ass.

An All-American wrestler at the University of Oregon, Sonnen secured takedowns in three of the five rounds and wound up in top position in all five. He absorbed his share of damage, as Silva picked his spots with elbows from the bottom, one of which cut Sonnen badly above the left eye. As the two middleweights entered Round 5, the heavily favored champion found himself in an unfamiliar state of desperation, needing a stoppage to retain his title.
With his foe grinding away on top, Silva deftly slid the choke into place. Sonnen tried unsuccessfully to counter the hold but, with no means of escape, surrendered with less than half a round remaining in the fight.
UFC 117 took place at Oracle Arena in Oakland, Calif., and the main card aired live on pay-per-view. Silva scored a come-from-behind fifth-round submission victory to defend his middleweight belt against Chael Sonnen in the night's highly anticipated main event. Fitch edged fellow welterweight contender Thiago Alves in the co-headliner, and former 170-pound champ Hughes submitted Ricardo Almeida in a featured bout.

UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva, considered the number one pound-for-pound fighter in the world by most experts, defends his 185-pound crown against Team Quest wrestler Chael Sonnen in the main event. In the co-main event, welterweights Jon Fitch and Thiago Alves battle for contention.

Also, the legend, Matt Hughes takes on "Big Dog" Ricardo Almeida, heavyweight killer Junior Dos Santos tests his mettle against The Ultimate Fighter 10 winner Roy "Big Country" Nelson and Clay Guida battles Rafael dos Anjos to round out the main card.
