Drazen Petrovic

0 comments
Vlade Divac has found peace
30 of 30 ads usually start with a hypothetical “What if I told you …”
Those are the questions the audience waiting in the rhetorical bliss. But the catch is not hypothetical. They are all what happened. They are more historical than hypothetical.

So what if I told you a budding friendship rooted in national pride can be ripped apart by something completely out of control friends? That is what happened to Vlade Divac and Drazen Petrovic, when civil war broke out in Yugoslavia in the early 1990s. The two leaned on each other for support as a teenager and later as they travel in their best basketball league in the world, but friendship is torn apart by senseless with their former country, Yugoslavia.

“Once Brothers” (Tuesday on ESPN, 8:00 ET) is at least 30 to 30 war, in which Michael Tolajian takes a trip to Divac to find out what happened to their friendship with Petrovic, when he was unfairly put on hold for life .

Divac was talking about the experience over the phone:

For many people who did not get to experience the Yugoslav team, can you describe what it was like to play with such loads, a young team?

This is a great team, but he started in our early days when we were 13 and 14 years. We met each other in training camps for our national team and since then we have become part of every other family. Later, when we started to play for the national team, the first major tournament was the 1988 Olympic Games in Korea. For those few years we have been Dream Team Europe, just like the Dream Team in ’92 for the U.S., we can beat anyone and everyone is talking about us. Everyone was talking about how good we were, and most guys on this team played in the NBA. It was fun to play with each other.

Civil war in Yugoslavia was indeed erupted in 1991, but he was aware that you guys were, so young, that is building it up like you guys were together? And did you already know that if a civil war happened was going to be some line drawn between you?

Not at all. They are completely separate from politics. We have dealt with have been traveling around, we played the games and the first time we heard something was going on in the middle of ’91. We thought it was going to take a month or so, and then everything was going to be fine. But then he went into a brutal civil war where a lot of people were killed and many people are friends and everything was destroyed. And so is ours. We were only part of it. We could not deny that not affect us, because it really was.

Can you talk about his friendship with Drazen before this happened? How have you been close, especially the NBA around the same time together?

Well, Drazen was older than four years of Dino (Radja), Toni (Kukoc) and myself. We looked up to him as the leader of our team. Those few years ago when we played for the senior team, in fact they were roommates. If I had a relationship with him, we’d talk about our future, and the game basically decided in the same year to go and try to be part of the best leagues in the world. Even in that first year, when he had the chance to play in Portland, we talked on the phone every day, supporting each other and talk about problems and how we should represent ourselves in the NBA. For this relationship, which is why I was hurt so much later that we just went separate ways.

How good he was as a player? I think it’s a pretty decent cult following of his now that people know that it is extremely good. How well do you think he could be that he died so tragically and early?

Definitely could be the All-Star player. He was one of the best players ever in Europe. He had a reputation for scoring machine. He was averaging 40 points per game when he played in Europe. When he came here, the first couple of years, had a chance to play in Portland. However, when he was traded to New Jersey, he finally showed his potential. He became one of the best players on the Nets this year and it is up to the playoffs. I’m sure if he is still alive, he would definitely be All-Star player.

Why is the friendship between the two of you so bad in such a quick manner? Obviously, there was a lot of tension and harm done to the civil war. But the distance was changed after it is so difficult to communicate? Looking back now, why you think it was such a falling out?

I think looking back now it’s all politics. When things happen like that you just have to decide what to do. Will you choose to take sides, or choose to be honest about things, or anything else? You simply can not ignore what is happening in this situation.

For my point I decided to be outspoken against the war. I’m sure he felt the same way. I do not know how much you understand the situation back home, but we’ve had with various republics of Yugoslavia and of different nationalities. A lot of people also have mixed marriages. These children must prove that they are on one side or the other. I think it is, in my opinion, Drazen was confused and tried to stay away from war and at the same time worry about what happens to his parents back home.

I know that he went back and did what he could, but how tough is that for guys like you, Tony and Dino know your family and friends are going through that every minute until it so far?

So sometimes you feel happy that you are away, and sometimes you feel sorry that you are not there to be near her parents and family. But at the same time you try to do what is the best thing you can do to help them out. I remember once I asked my brother to come and stay with me, but he decided to stay with their parents. Parents never felt like you should leave the country because they want to stay. Same thing with Drazen parents, they want to stay there and it was very difficult to live too far away and after the news about what is happening there.

What is travel like in figuring out what you need to know about this movie?

So it’s very frustrating back then. Why are they ignoring me? Why do not you want to keep in touch with me? But when you put all these things together in the movie, you realize that this is done, because it is a very dangerous time. From a distance I understand what is happening. It was a lot of politics behind it.

Did you experience a problem like that with Tony, Dino, and his other teams or do you know if they experienced the same sort of thing with Drazen? As a division of decline?

You know, different people react differently. Dino I’ve always been more open. He will come to me and say, “Well this is a bad home situation and with people talking differently, we should not go together in public. Come to my house and we can talk.” I was fine with that.

I was fine with Drazen’s decision to just ignore me and tell me to stay away and all the stops when we sit down and talk. That bothers me because I felt like having a friend for life or have no friends of the time. If you are a friend, you are a friend. And that’s what hurt me back then.

When he died, obviously such a horrible event, what were you feeling other than sadness? Did you think you regret it because it never got to talk?

Absolutely. First of all, being so close to him, it was a shock for me when I heard the news that he died. He was so young, a guy who really had a career ahead of him. He eventually started playing in the NBA as he knew he could succeed in the NBA. Knowing that I was never going to have a chance to sit down and talk and see what is the reason that we had a bad relationship in the past two years definitely hurt me.

Do you feel like you got the answers you need with this film? Do you feel content with what you’ve learned?

Yes, I finally found closure in a conversation with his brother and his parents and visit them in Zagreb. I remember it was a bad year with the political turmoil back home, I go back to Croatia for 20 years. The first time I went, I went straight to Drazen’s grave and I finally found peace, because it was something I always wanted to do.

Are you able to be close to his family and again at this point it is too far?

No [it's not too far], I remember even before I went to Zagreb to see his mother for the first time I met her a few years before in Slovenia for a charity game. She came up to me and started crying, and she told me she was so grateful that I always talk about Drazen in the media and keep his legacy. Since a lot of people, especially young people, do not realize how great he was as a player.

She opened the museum in Zagreb, Dražen keep their memories. From this project, I am grateful to the NBA Cares program, we are all put together donations for Drazen’s museum back home. That’s nice.

How do you feel about the current state of the field there now?

Even then, as I said, I was always open about the situation. People always said you should not get into politics and talk about politics. But I think politics is all around us. If you do not react to situations like this and say it’s bad or good it is, politics are part of our lives. So I think today, finally going in the right direction, because we have a special pair of Presidents of Serbia and Croatia, which seem to be nice people. They finally went ahead and talk about peace between the two countries and those people. So hopefully, time can heal those bad years in the 90-ies.

Texas Flag Mistaken

0 comments
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Election officials in Atascosa County are correcting a mistake on absentee ballots to remove the flag of Chile, which is similar to the Texas banner. Voter Troy Knudson noticed the error. Knudson told the Austin American-Statesman that election officials congratulated him “for preventing future Atascosa voters from seeing the flag mistake.”

The flags of Texas and Chile both have a white stripe on top and a red one on the bottom, plus a single star in the middle of a blue field.

In the Chilean flag the blue is only in the top left corner. The Texas flag displayed the blue all along the left side.

Current elections administrator Janice Ruple blames a previous worker for the mixup and says “We just never caught it.”

The election is Nov. 2.

XXY Movie Cast

Ricardo Darín, Valeria Bertuccelli, Inés Efron, Martín Piroyansky, Carolina Peleritti

XXY is a 2007 Argentine film written and directed by Lucía Puenzo. The film stars Ricardo Darín, Valeria Bertuccelli, Inés Efron and Martín Piroyansky. It tells the story of a 15-year-old intersex person, the way her family copes with her condition and the ultimate decision that she must eventually make as she explores her sexuality.

XXY has received widespread critical acclaim, winning the Critics’ Week grand prize at the 2007 Cannes film festival, as well as the ACID/CCAS Support Award.

The film’s title is a reference to Klinefelter’s syndrome, also known as XXY syndrome, a condition in which males have an extra X sex chromosome. However, the main character does not display Klinefelter’s syndrome.

XXY Movie Review

Even when the film overdoses on its own downcastness or on dubious similes and symbolisms, you can feel why the characters as well as the filmmakers are humbled in more than one way by the conceptual intricacies and the high emotional stakes of the essent. It is not a message picture, never lectures, contains partial nudity but avoids explicit images and grows into a poignant human drama.

Sexy Halloween Costumes

0 comments

Houston, TX -12 October 2010 - Costume Cauldron is pleased to announce the inclusion of a wide line of adult Halloween costumes that have been selected as the Sexiest Halloween Costumes in 2010. According to Susan West, "It seems the sexy Halloween costumes are the most popular for online purchases this year" and, as a result, the company elected to increase the line available to meet the needs of this year's consumers.

As an internationally known web-based costume maker, Costume Cauldron provides all the costumes, accessories, makeup, and supplies required to achieve any look desired. They state that as in previous years, to achieve a sexy look often requires few garments, but lots of confidence and an overall look that is cohesive. The difference this year, however, is that costumes are taking many more forms than ever before. The most popular choices continue to be pirate costumes, Alice in Wonderland, and even animals and insects. All these costumes are generated around a frilly, sexy, and fun look. However, now the line has expanded to also include some of the hottest movies of the year.

One of the sexiest costumes this year actually covers the entire body. Based on the Avatars from the movie, according to Costume Cauldron the brightly striped blue skin of this creature requires very little extra clothing to produce exactly the look desired and it's one that cannot be ignored. With the proper application of makeup that reflects the same patterns onto the face and hands and donning pointed ears, it's hard to tell the difference from the characters in the movie.

Unlike previous years, the tight budgets of today's consumers are sending many people looking to alternative sources when shopping for Halloween. As a result, Costume Cauldron has seen an increase in sales which has allowed them to expand their line. They state that even for those on a budget, and entire costume, accessories, makeup, and supplies are now available at very affordable prices.

This year's Halloween is scheduled to be bigger than ever. It's been a tough year for many people and having the opportunity to become someone else as well as having a fun-filled evening with family and friends that requires little expense is inspiring many to join in the fun. Costume Cauldron is dedicating its efforts this year to making sure that everyone has the opportunity to join in on the fun.

Sexiest Videos Shot By Complex Magazine

0 comments

Michelle Trachtenberg’s recent amazing photo shoot for the folks over at Complex magazine got me to thinking about all the super sexy videos those folks have put together the last few years.  Mark Ecko’s monthly masterpiece has had many of the women you want to see sit for them in various stages of undress and they were nice enough to not only snap photos of these lovely ladies, but also capture many of these moments on video.

My question here today is, “Which of these videos were the sexiest?” To answer that, I strapped on my ogling glasses and took a good, hard look at all of them and here’s what I found. Now, you may not agree with the list’s order, but you most definitely will not leave here disappointed.

(Once you’re done viewing these, be sure to check out The 20 sexiest videos shot by GQ magazine too!)

Minka Kelly is Esquire’s Sexiest Woman Alive 2010, and for good reason – check out the Minka Kelly Esquire pictures and video from her photo shoot. Minka is sexy as hell.

Actress Minka Kelly, most famous for her role on “Friday Night Lights” and as girlfriend to Derek Jeter, stole the sexiest woman title from Kate Beckinsale, who the mag named the tops for 2009.

Minka Kelly Esquire's Sexiest Woman Alive 2010

In the Esquire article, Minka Kelly poses for sexy photos, which is new territory for the actress: “I’ve never done a sexy photo shoot before. I’ve never really honestly tapped into that side. It was really liberating. It was exciting. I would look at the pictures, like, that’s me?”

Bobby Cox

0 comments
ATLANTA -- OK, I'm repeating myself, but something I wrote earlier deserves a written replay, especially after the emotional mess that was Bobby Cox Monday night in a back room of Turner Field.

He doesn't want to quit.

So he won't.

That's because Cox isn't sprinting into retirement for good on his wobbly legs after managing in the major leagues for nearly three decades, no matter how much he keeps saying he will.

"A lot of us won't believe it until spring training rolls around and somebody else is in the clubhouse," said Atlanta Braves outfielder Matt Diaz, speaking for the wise.

With that in mind, there were several telling moments long after Cox twisted in his usual corner of the home dugout as the Braves dropped another thriller to the San Francisco Giants in the National League Division Series along the way to elimination in four games.

First, the crowd wouldn't stop chanting, "Bob-by, Bob-by, Bob-by" at the end, and the famously humble Cox was forced to make a U-turn in the tunnel leading from the dugout to the clubhouse and return to the dugout steps for a little wave.

The chants grew louder, so Cox had to leave the dugout and stand a few yards away while swirling his cap in the air.

Then the unusual happened. Likely, it was the unprecedented.

Everybody among the Giants' contingent stopped their victory celebration in the middle of the field to turn and applaud the opposing manager. They also wouldn't stop. Cox had to move out even farther from the dugout to acknowledge, not only the noisy folks in the stands who switched from their tomahawk chopping and chanting to hugging Cox with cheers, but to thank the Giants for their gesture.

"I grew up watching TBS, and I've seen what Bobby Cox has done over the years," said Brian Wilson, the Giants' splendid reliever, who is from the New England area, where the Boston Red Sox ruled everything but Wilson's heart. "Bobby Cox is THE guy. Applauding him the way that we did, that's what classy baseball teams would do in this situation. That's what every team would do."

What Cox did following that crowd thing and that Giants thing was the bigger story. In fact, there were two scenes of note.

Let's start with the second one, featuring Cox speaking easily to reporters about this and that after the Braves' 3-2 loss supposedly ended his managerial career that included 25 years in Atlanta. Four minutes into Cox being Cox, with his typically pleasant but controlled answers, somebody asked the 69-year-old baseball icon if he had already addressed his players in the postgame clubhouse?

"The best I could. Told them I was really proud of them," Cox said, before developing a lump in his throat the size of a batting doughnut. He leaned back in his chair. Just like that, he evolved into a guy that nobody ever has seen during his 51 years in various capacities in the game. He was a guy overcome with emotion. He tried to speak, but he couldn't, with his pause lasting four, six -- all the way up to 17 seconds.

Finally, with that lump increasing by the moment, Cox said slightly above a whisper, "A grown man shouldn't do this."

He was referring to fighting back tears. I think.

I mean, this could have been a subconscious thing, with Cox referring to a manager saying he was retiring when he really wanted to stick around until somebody ripped the uniform and the pair of spikes from his cold, dead body.

For instance: What are you going to do now, Bobby?

"I don't know," Cox said, searching for words that never came -- at least, not easily. "I'm going to try to come out here (to the ballpark to watch Braves games). I'm not sure yet. We still have family and guests in our house, and I'm not sure."

He's not sure ... he wants to retire.

Which brings me to the one-on-one conversation I had with Cox before the game in the dugout. With uniform and spikes in place, and with batting practice happening across the way, he was as happy as ever.

I thought I knew Cox well after covering him for most of his Atlanta stay, but I didn't know any of this. He mentioned that he was a star quarterback in high school in Fresno, Calif., and that he was recruited by the likes of USC, Cal-Berkeley and Stanford before choosing baseball. He said he consistently led his prep team to victories over the one of Daryle Lamonica, the former Notre Dame and Oakland Raiders standout. He said the only thing he dislikes as much in sports as pro football ("Too many players celebrating instead of just playing,") is the American League ("Games take too long.").

Cox was having a blast, all right, talking, laughing, kicking his spikes against the floor of the dugout, while greeting everybody passing by with the look of an old man feeling much younger in that uniform and those spikes.

Later, not so much. Which brings me to the first of those aforementioned scenes. It occurred when Braves players, coaches and team personnel gathered in the clubhouse after the game's final out.

Chipper Jones couldn't believe what he saw. There, standing before everybody, was a tongue-tied Cox, who kept trying and failing to keep the tears from flowing.

"There wasn't a dry eye in the place," said Jones, the Braves' future Hall of Fame third baseman, who was around for much of the record 14 consecutive division titles that Cox won with the Braves from the early 1990s into the turn of the century. And, despite suffering a season-ending knee injury down the stretch of the Braves' frantic search this year to make the playoffs, Jones traveled with the team. He watched the Cox tributes from city to city -- culminating with a massive and touching one during the Braves' last weekend of the regular season.

Now it came to this for Cox, and this was it.

Well, Cox keeps saying as much.

"Bobby always has been pretty sure about what he's going to say, and he's always been matter of fact," Jones said, recalling his thoughts as Cox stood before his team for the last time. "But you know (tonight), he couldn't get it out. It's still hard to believe now that it's over ..."

It's not over for Cox, though.

Just watch.

Favre Scandal

0 comments
Everyone is talking about the Brett Favre/Jenn Sterger  scandal. In case you have been living under a rock for the last several months, here is a quick rundown of what is going on, and why it matters:

Jenn Sterger, who used to work as a reporter for the Jets back in 2008, revealed to a journalist friend that she had received a lot of attention from athletes in the past. Most of them, she claimed, were small names. But there were a few big ones, and one of those giants was married Jets star Brett Favre.

She then revealed she had texts, voicemails (which were surprisingly creepy at times), and photographs he sent her of his genitals. She saved these, though she said she never encouraged him, and yet he persisted.

When asked why she didn’t report him, especially after making it clear she wasn’t interested, she said she feared losing her job. This was a fair enough point, and it is this reason that this scandal means more than you typical scum-bag, egotist sportsman tabloid story.

This is a matter of an attractive women, one who is well known for her body – because she has made herself well known for her body – working on the field and being harassed by a star player. It is about that player thinking that his behavior is acceptable, and that she has to take it lying down (so to speak) because of her position, reputation, and what would potentially happen if she complained.

It is a matter of sexism, plain and simple.

The best editorial I have seen on the issue was written by the fantastic Jason Whitlock of FOX Sports, who pointed out that this scandal forces us to look at an issue that has long since permeated the sports field.

“When it comes to football, women put on short skirts, tight sweaters and carry pompoms. They grab our beer, fix our buffalo wings and look cute while reporting to us that the return of the player who limped off the field is questionable,” Whitlock said.

“I know Snickers Bars that would feel denigrated being reduced to NFL eye candy.”

He also points out that Sterger did nothing wrong, as far as we know. She was a woman who was harassed by an older man who used his greater position with the Jets to exploit her. It doesn’t appear that she slept with him, nor that she approached her friend with the intention of giving over this information.

Every step of the way she has been reluctant to cooperate. So why so much hostility towards her, and not the man who was attempting to cheat on his wife, who was harassing a 20-something field reporter who was just doing her job?

Sexiest Woman Alive Minka Kelly

0 comments
Actress Minka Kelly has been named Esquire magazine's Sexiest Woman Alive. The former "Friday Night Lights" actress takes the crown from Kate Beckinsale, who was named last year's most attractive star.

But Kelly, who is pictured posing seductively in lingerie for the November issue of the men's magazine, admits she didn't always feel glamorous growing up - as the daughter of a struggling stripper.

Opening up about hard times and her late mother, she says, "My mom lived a fast life. It was all about what we could do to have fun with nothing. She - for most of my life, she was a dancer. An exotic dancer. She was a stripper. So she would come home at like three, four o'clock in the morning and sometimes she would have a really great night, and she would wake me up in the middle of the night and we'd go to (Los Angeles grocery chain) Ralphs and go grocery shopping."

But Kelly made the best of her upbringing: "And that was so much fun. We'd have the whole grocery store to ourselves, and we would have a blast and buy a hundred dollars in groceries. And it was just the best day ever. The best day."

Kim Kardashian W Magazine Photos

Kim Kardashian’s  ‘W Magazine’ naked photo spread is one of the hottest things you’ll ever see in your lifetime… I guarantee it! We have links to the nude photos below.
Kim Kardashian 1 2

W’s November 2010 issue is deemed as “art” by the publication. Who knew that so many guys out there are art enthusiasts?

I know what you’re here for, so let’s get right down to business! Check out the Kim Kardashian naked photos here, here, and by all means here. If you do leave us though please be sure to come back to devour the rest of the delicious content we have to offer!

The sexy picture on the cover is just a little taste of what’s to come when you actually open up the magazine, and I’d be willing to bet that you’ll be so fixated on the photos you will almost forget there is an article included with the spread.

I think KK is one of the only females on the planet that can so provocatively bare it all, and yet still manage to blend it with an element of classiness… It’s no wonder that Justin Bieber wants Kim to be his girlfriend. Seriously, what guy doesn’t?

In other news –the Kardashian sisters were living it up in a nightclub in New York City recently when a jealous girlfriend threw her drink at Kim after she took a picture with her boyfriend. As you would expect the claws came out, and Khloe immediately rushed to her sister’s defense, and in the scuffle her pricey wedding ring slipped off her finger and slid across the club’s floor. According to reports, she wasn’t to proud to get on her hands and knees to search for the ring, and after a while finally found it. Soon after the confrontation the Kardashian crew pulled off in taxicabs. FYI: they were shooting their reality show, and certainly this incident made for good television. Which makes you wonder…

What do you think of the photos of Kim Kardashian naked in W – Hot or not?

Cinemas in Singapore

Yesterday I Almost Puked While Watching A Movie In Singapore.

The reason was my confused brain after I had finally decided to give the new re-discovered 3D-Movies a try and watch “My Bloody Valentine” in fabulous, and very shaky, 3D pictures.

And while sitting there and seeing blood and ripped out hearts flying around me, enjoying myself and the sweet popcorn, I remembered how I first arrived in Singapore and short after had a terrible introduction to the cinema experience in Singapore.
Enjoy your movie in Singapore to the fullest, read here where!

1. Golden Village – Vivo City

The Golden Village franchise cinemas are in general all of a very high standard, including newest sound and projector technology, mostly clean theater rooms, convenient Internet booking and seat reservation etc.

The Golden Village cinemas at Vivo City offer you the great convenience to spend a day shopping or relaxing on Sentosa and coming back letting you watch a nice cinema in a very relaxing atmosphere.

2. Golden Village – Plaza Singapura

If you want to have a nice dinner and combine it with a very convenient location (Dauhby Gaut MRT) and a relaxing movie to finish the day of, then I can recommend the Golden Village cinema in the Plaza Singapura Mall.

Situated on the top level, you have all the usual amenities, and if your show is sold out already, you always have the option to walk over to the Cathay (below) and check their screenings.

3. The Cathay – Cathay (Dauhby Gaut MRT)

A mere 5 minute walk from the MRT station or Plaza Singapura “The Cathay” is the other big franchise cinema line in Singapore. Their “Flagship” cinema is in the “Cathay” building and was the first to offer 3D movies in Singapore.

If you have to wait for your movie to start, just have a nice snack in the food court in the basement or play a round of PC games on the same level as the cinema.

However, their rooms are usually more freezer then cinema. Bring a winter jacket if you come here.

    * Online booking:
      Yes (here)
    * Ticket Weekday:

4. Shaw Lido Complex (Room 1) – Shaw Center

One of the oldest established cinemas right in the heart of Singapore. Directly on Orchard road and once founded by the “Shaw Brothers” this is the place to go for some nostalgia.

Old original movie posters along the walls of the Lido and ticket counters as old school as some of the cinema rooms.

I put “Room 1″ in the header because I can only recommend “Room 1″. Its the largest cinema room in Singapore and plays the movies in High Definition, full digitalized quality. Very impressive.

    * Webpage:
      www.shaw.sg
    * Online booking:
      Yes (here)
    * Ticket Weekday:
      7 $ (+0.5 $ Booking Fee)
    * Ticket Weekend:
      8 $ (+0.5 $ Booking Fee)
    * Clean:
      I would say its enough, general clean, but you might find some old Popcorn on your seat
    * Movie Quality (Technology / Sound):
      Offers 3D movies, biggest cinema room in Singapore, some rooms very old technology, Room 1 full digitalized

5. Alliance Francais

The Alliance Francais is a French cultural center in Singapore, situated near Newton MRT (5 minutes walking distance) it is the only place where you will find old and new French movies, shown in French with English subtitles the whole year.

The environment is more of a cultural arty one, then the latest cinema dome. Definitely worth a visit and a must for every French movie lover.

    * Webpage:
      www.alliancefrancaise.org.sg
    * Online booking:
      Yes (here)
    * Ticket Weekday:
      8.20 $
    * Ticket Weekend:
      8.20 $
    * Clean:
      Yes, simple location, but everything fine
    * Movie Quality (Technology / Sound):
      This cinema is not about the movie quality but the gathering and experience. Enjoy the movie, the company and the environment, not the latest technology.

6. Screening Room – China Town

The Screening Room is thought as a fusion of bar / restaurent with cinema touch. Situated near Club Street in China Town its a wonderful place for a nice cocktail on the rooftop bar and a private (you can rent their screening room) or public show of a timeless movie.
Its a very nice concept that works very well and keeps a personal touch through small location and well executed concept ideas.

    * Webpage:
      www.screeningroom.com.sg
    * Online booking:
      No (Reservations through: 6221-1694 or by email to info@screeningroom.com.sg)

      Clean as a bar can be!

      Its about the combination of wonderful bar and restaurent layout with the possibility to sit down and have your cocktail while watching one of the timeless masterpieces with your friends. Dont expect the latest technology, but a lot of fun and a wonderful evening.

7. Gold Class – Golden Village

The golden ultimate cinema experience. Expect to pay 35 $ and more for a single ticket, but find yourself in a cinema with not more then 20 guests, each resting in a business class lounge style chair, fully convertible into a nice and comfortable bed.

You get your popcorn and drinks, meals and cokctails personally delivered to your seat and blankets to keep you warm (which is more then important especially in Singapore) are included as well. Be king for a night.

AVA Singapore

 AVA Singapore

Up to 90% of Singapore's food supply is imported from overseas.

Recognising this over-reliance on an external source, the Agri-food and Veterinary Authority of Singapore (AVA) set up a food fund of $5 million in 2009 to help Singapore achieve self-sufficiency in food production.

In light of the significant number of projects the AVA has received, it announced today that this amount has been doubled to $10 million.

The AVA has so far accepted half of the 48 applications made for the food fund.

Minister for National Development Mah Bow Tan said that the key focus of the fund is to increase production of eggs, fish and vegetables.

In tandem with this, the AVA has awarded 12 out 22 applications to fish produce-related projects.

It also co-pays up to 70% for each project, and has set overall target to achieve for three key produce - 30% for eggs, 15% for fish and 10% for vegetables in 5 to 7 years.

Minister Mah was speaking at the sidelines of a visit to one of the beneficiaries-to-be, Seng Choon farm, a poultry farm whose application for funding has been approved.

Find out how a 23-year-old farm like Seng Choon employs agri-technology to meet its output and production targets.

Sammie Yu

Ronald Cheng and Charlene Choi divorced March 2010. Half a year later, they both found their other halves. As to the reports that he's pursuing iCable's CEN lead announcer Sammie Yu, Ronald did not respond. Yesterday, it was reported that Ronald gave brand name gifts to her, paid for her rent and served as her driver. Yesterday Sammie accepted an interview and clarified the rumors. She strongly stressed that she and Ronald are "in the middle of developing", and does not want to talk too much about her personal life.

Sammie expressed that she has known Ronald for a period of time now, but it was only recently that they started keeping in touch more often. She only wants to clarify the untrue magazine reports, that her current residence is a shared purchase by her and her younger sister.

A magazine photographed Sammie in Ronald's car going back to her company, she explained: "That day I was going to have lunch with him, he is a gentlemen and hired a driver to pick me up. Actually my colleagues, often drives me around too."

She stressed that they were just having lunch with a group of friends and it's not like what the magazines say "can't see the light".

GIC IPO

0 comments
Petronas Chemicals is looking to raise as much as $4 billion in a Malaysian initial public offering, exceeding earlier estimates of over $2 billion as it hopes to tap on strong global investor demand for Asian stocks.

Asian capital markets are seeing a flurry of multi-billion deals, helped by a flood of liquidity, low interest rates and strong economic growth.

The IPO for Petronas Chemicals, owned by Malaysian state oil giant Petronas, could become the largest share offering in the country, exceeding Maxis’s (MXSC) $3.3 billion listing last year.

It follows Singapore wealth fund GIC’s logistic unit’s $3 billion IPO and may overlap with American International Group’s (AIG) planned listing of its Asian life insurance business AIA in a deal worth over $15 billion.

“This is a big surprise and it comes at a time when there is heated interest for oil and gas stocks,” said Danny Wong, chief executive of Acera Capital, which manages about 400 million Malaysia ringgit ($129 million) in funds.

“Even though foreign investors are not very big on Malaysia, this IPO could spark more interest and even then I forsee a lot of local institutional players going for this latest proxy of Petronas.”

Petronas Chemicals — which manufactures olefins and polyolefins, fertilizers, industrial and specialty chemicals — will begin “pre-marketing” its IPO on Tuesday with formal investor roadshows slated to begin on Oct 27.

The deal is expected to be priced on Nov 12, according to an email sent to investors by one of the advisers.

Petronas Chemicals has an annual production capacity of more than 10 million tonnes. It posted an operating profit of $2.3 billion in fiscal 2009, according to its prospectus.

Oil firm Petronas PETR, which is a lifeline for the Malaysian economy as it provides almost half of the country’s budget revenue through taxes and dividends, also controls industrial gas supplier Petronas Gas (PGAS.KL) and petrol station operator Petronas Dagangan (PETR)

Petronas Chemical Group’s IPO is one of two offerings to be launched by government-run Petronas in response to Prime Minister Najib Razak’s call to reduce state ownership in the private sector and boost liquidity in the stock market.

Hady Mirza

SINGAPORE - It was a poolside party that had fellow residents seeing red.

MediaCorp has learnt that the management council of Mimosa Park condominium in Yio Chu Kang has banned 2006 Singapore Idol Hady Mirza (picture) and his family, who live in the development, from using its recreational facilities after a private party on Oct 2.

It is understood that the council was not pleased by what it saw in the wake of that party at the condominium's poolside clubhouse.

For one thing, used paper plates and uneaten food were thrown into the pool. The toilets were also choked and damaged.

Cleaners had to be called in to clean up the mess to appease residents who wanted to use the facilities. The damage was extensive and it took the cleaners six hours to complete the task.

This is not the first time Hady and his family of five - who have been living in a four-bedroom rented apartment in the condo for the last three years - have broken the rules, said chairman of the condominium's management council Leonard Lee.

The family's visitors have, on occasion, parked their cars illegally, despite repeated reminders not to do so.

As a result, the wheels of their cars have been clamped on a number of occasions, said Mr Lee.

But the mess in the pool proved to be the last straw.

Last week, the chairman sent a letter to the family informing them that their $500 tenant deposit had been forfeited because of the incident.

The family's access passes have also been cancelled, which means they cannot use the shared facilities - the pool, gym and squash court. The ban is for a period of six months.

In the strongly-worded letter, Mr Lee said the episode "has caused severe inconvenience to our residents and other users" and, as a result, "additional expenses" had to be incurred to restore the premises.

He added: "We are holding you responsible for all costs ... we shall be forfeiting your tenant deposit which will be used towards the partial cost of the cleaning operations".

Mr Lee did not say how much "all costs" amounted to but added the council reserved the right to recover any other costs "that may have incurred as a result of your irresponsible behaviour".

When contacted, 30-year-old Hady declined to comment on the matter, saying "it's personal". However, MediaCorp understands that his mother, Madam Mardiana Ahmad, has sent a letter of apology to the management council.

Peter Lim Liverpool

0 comments
The rampant search for the identity of the Asian bidder, who pushed New England Sports Ventures (NESV) to seal a deal in the race of buying Liverpool, ended yesterday with Robert Peston’s report on BBC earlier today.

Peston revealed the mystery man as Peter Lim, a Singaporean businessman with a fortune that Forbes Asia estimates at 1 billion pounds. It is believed that he was the front-runner for Liverpool just before the club announced a 300 million pound deal with NESV.

The NESV deal is conditional on the outcome of High Court action by RBS or Liverpool against the club’s current owners, Tom Hicks and George Gillett.

Here’s an interesting tidbit for you. Peter Lim’s interest in English football is reportedly based on the fact that he owns several Manchester United themed bars across Asia; 14 of them, to be precise, according to a spokesman, although they are not official United bars.

Peter Lim was also “surprised and disappointed” that he wasn’t offered the chance to outbid NESV. He accepts, however, “that if it’s not possible, then it’s not possible”, and understands that NESV has a legal agreement in place to buy the club if the court action goes positively for RBS.

NESV queered the pitch slightly by briefing – or allowing briefing on their behalf – that they could walk away if Liverpool went into administration. This created a public perception that they are not as committed as they might have seemed originally. This wavering has allowed room for Lim to re-enter the fray, if only in PR terms.

Sporting intelligence has further established:

    * Peter Lim opened talks with Liverpool as late as 22 September.
    * Also know as Peter Lim Eng Hock, the basis of his fortune was agribusiness, property and latterly retail, with one early successful investment in Willmar putting him on the road to riches.
    * Lim was nicknamed “King of the Remisiers” for his reputation as a consistent profit-making stockbroker.
    * Now 57, he retired from his hugely lucrative stock broking work in the mid-90s when he was going through a divorce in which he sought custody of his children, then four and two. His daughter is now 18 and his son is 16.
    * The divorce proceedings, from his ex-wife Madam Venus Teo Geok Fong, produced pages of gossipy details for Singapore’s newspapers for days on end in the 1990s.
    * The divorce clearly had a major ongoing impact on his life and outlook. In an interview as recently as 2007, Lim said: “Money is a funny thing. When you don’t have it, you want it. But when you have it, you have a lot of problems. I believe that if I’d had no money, I wouldn’t have had my divorce. Things wouldn’t be good, but it wouldn’t end up in a divorce.”
    * Lim has also said: “The money part of me – I just want to get away from it because I think that part of my life has given me a lot of trouble.”
    * Lim’s philanthropy stretches beyond the SOF. Earlier this year he won the biggest libel payout in Singaporean history, and he doubled the Sing$220,000 award he received and donated it to educational charity.

    * Lim is Singapore’s eighth richest man with a fortune estimated at $1.6 billion. He is a large shareholder in Singapore-listed Wilmar, the world’s largest palm oil firm, and Singapore fashion retailer FJ Benjamin.

According to a spokeswoman, Lim is prepared to make an improved offer and has written a letter to the Liverpool board.
