Kim Kardashian talks about 'humiliating' sex tape

In an interview for the September issue of Allure magazine, Kim Kardashian speaks out about the leaked sex tape that shot her to stardom.
“Not my most proud moment, it was humiliating,” the reality star tells the magazine. “Not that I don't think it's no one's business, but I think I've done a good job with replacing negative things with positive things."

That’s not the only thing Kardashian gets candid about. The Keeping Up With The Kardashians star also talks about her grooming rituals. "I am Armenian, so of course I am obsessed with laser hair removal! Arms, bikini, legs, underarms...my entire body is hairless." Kardashian mentions the lessons she learned from her late father, who was OJ Simpson lawyer Robert Kardashian. He passed away in 2003 from esophageal cancer when Kim was 23 years-old.
“I feel lazy when I'm not working,” she says. “I learned all my business sense from my dad. He always believed in me, and I think the last thing he said to me before he passed away was, 'I know you're gonna be OK. I'm not worried about you.'”

Sylvester Stallone Height

Sylvester Stallone’s height is a hot topic – with The Expendables topping the weekend box office, many are asking “How tall is Sylvester Stallone?”

The real answer about Sylvester Stallone’s height is unclear, with most reports saying he falls in at 5 foot 9 or 5 foot 10.

But take a look at Sylvester Stallone in this movie poster for The Expendables, where he appears to be as tall as (or taller than) some of his less height challenged co-stars.

Bruce Willis and Mickey Rourke, for example, are said to be 5 feet 11 inches tall and UFC fighter Randy Couture is 6 feet tall – so I question Sylvester Stallone’s height in the movie poster. Even compared to the shortest guys in this crew, Stallone comes off as pretty tall.

What gives?

We’re guessing the orientation of the cast in this poster creates somewhat of an optical illusion. Stallone is flanked by Jet Li, who is just 5 feet 6 inches, and Jason Statham, who is reportedly the same height as Stallone. The bigger guys stand at an angle.

By the way, the tallest among the cast is Dolph Lundgren, who stands at 6 feet, 4-and-a-quarter inches. And Stallone’s height doesn’t seem all that diminutive in comparison – but maybe that’s because they’ve sandwiched Jet Li in the middle?

All this Sylvester Stallone height business got us thinking about whether his three daughters, who appeared at The Expendables premiere with him, will end up towering over him? One of his daughters is already approaching papa Stallone’s height, and I can see the others catching up.

Do you think they fudged Sylvester Stallone’s height for The Expendables? I suppose it’s nothing new in Hollywood (I’m looking at you, Tom Cruise!).

Army Ranks

Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa on Saturday gave the final nod to strip former Army Chief General Sarath Fonseka's all military ranks, perks and privileges for meddling in politics while in uniforms.

The first court martial by a bench of three top military officials held in Colombo on Friday convicted Fonseka of conspiring to topple the government while in uniform.

Officials from the President Secretariat said Rajapaksa, who is the Commander-in-Chief of military, has authorized the conviction.

According to military sources, the verdict will not imprison Fonseka but will remove him from his rank and medals.

Fonseka, 59, is credited for the Army's victory over the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) rebels ending the three- decade campaign to set up a separate Tamil homeland.

He, who led the Sri Lanka Army from December 2005 until November 2009, is Sri Lanka's first four star general.

Fonseka was found guilty of having discussions with the Opposition parliamentarians while in uniform to get him a party slot for the January Presidential polls.

This was the first of two courts martial which Fonseka was subject to since his arrest on Feb. 8.

The sittings began on March 16 and Fonseka tried to halt Court Martial proceedings but failed.

After ending the war against the Tamil Tiger rebels in May 2009, Fonseka, the experienced soldier was promoted to the Chief of Defense Staff but he resigned from the post in November claiming he was sidelined.

He unsuccessfully challenged Rajapaksa at the presidential election in January 2010 and was arrested for trying to topple the government during his tenure as the Army Chief. Fonseka had challenged the result in court.

Fonseka contested the parliamentary polls while behind bars and entered the legislature from the Democratic National Alliance led by him.

The first court martial, which was appointed by Rajapaksa, commenced its sittings under the provisions of the Army Act in March.

Fonseka is also facing the second court martial over allegations of irregularities in military purchases. He is accused for supporting his son-in-law to purchase military equipment during his tenure as the Army Chief.

Fonseka, who is in military detention, said the court ruling was unacceptable as it came from low ranking military officials.

"It is a humorous joke," he said.

Earlier, Fonseka charged Defense Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa for ordering to execute some LTTE leaders who came to surrender during the final days of the battle.

The DNA Parliamentarian Anura Kumara Dissanayake said Rakapaksas harassing Fonseka as he challenged the president and the DNA would not accept the court ruling as it was one sided.

"This is not the way to treat a war hero. We can not justify this ruling as the hearing was held during court vacation. Fonseka' s lawyers were on holiday,"he said.

Rienzie Arsecularatne, Fonseka's lawyer claimed that the case was taken up during his absence though he informed the court martial that he would not be present as it was court vacations.

Age Of Empires Online

75% of the Age of Empire Online team are veterans of the series, Microsoft Game Studios GM, Dave Luehmann has claimed.

Speaking to CVG at Microsoft's GamesCom showcase this afternoon, the MGS man promised that developer Robot - founded by ex-Ensembles employees after MS closed the AoE creator - are "skilled" with the series.

"I'd say about 75% of the team have worked on Age of Empires before," he said. "So it's the core team that you can feel comfortable with and who are well skilled with Age [of Empires]."

Ensemble splintered off into various different upstarts following the completion of Halo Wars, which was the studio's last game.

On Microsoft's ambitions for the online game - which was announced this morning - Luehmann said: "I don't have a set number of users but I'm really curious to see how the fans react to it."

In the same interview the Microsoft Games Studios GM said the company is finally looking to "invest" in Windows gaming.

Veteran actor Kirk Douglas has called for more Muslims to speak out and condemn the 9/11 terrorists - after admitting he's "confused" by plans to build a mosque near Ground Zero. The Hollywood legend has waded into the debate over the controversial proposal, insisting it would be "painful" for the families of the 2,700 people who died in the World Trade Center attack.

But he also admits it's unfair to punish all Muslims for the actions of a slim minority - and is urging more followers of Islam to speak out against terrorist atrocities. Taking to his MySpace.com page, Douglas writes, "I must write how I feel: A blistering argument is taking place about building a mosque near Ground Zero."

"My son Peter argues that a free country should allow the mosque to be built. I have argued that it could be painful to the families of the many victims who died there. But I am confused because I have had several Muslim friends for many years. They are kind, generous, caring people - I value their friendship."

"But, a part of me says, the people who brought about such horrific destruction on the World Trade Center were Muslims that attended a mosque and who believed that America should die. Of course, I wish more Muslims, like my friends, would speak out and condemn those actions. I am confused."

Muslim activist Feisal Abdul Rauf is behind plans to build a $100 million mosque just a few blocks from the site of the World Trade Center.

Potash Corp

Aug 17 (Reuters) - Chile's fertilizer SQM SQMa.SN SQM_pb.SN shares jumped over 6 percent on Tuesday after Potash Corp (POT.TO) (POT.N), a key stakeholder, said its board rejected an unsolicited $39 billion offer from miner BHP Billiton (BHP.AX) (BLT.L).

Potash, which has a 32 percent stake in SQM, surged nearly 28 percent at 10:39 a.m. EDT (1439 GMT).

The bid reflects BHP desire to capitalize on a resurgence in the global fertilizer industry following a collapse in demand during the global economic slowdown.

Analysts said a steep recovery in the fertilizer business and expectations of a higher counter-bid by BHP boosted views for SQM's asset value.

BHP said it continues to review its options and will make a further announcement in due course.

SQM, which holds many concessions in mineral-rich Chile, is one of the world's top producers of iodine and lithium.

Shares in SQM are trading near seven-month intraday highs at 21,300 pesos, but still far from the all-time record of 29,100 pesos per share seen in mid 2008. ($1= 505.30 Chilean pesos) (Reporting by Alonso Soto and Antonio de la Jara, editing by Gerald E. McCormick)

Jeggings

First came jeans diapers. Now, parents are scooping up skinny jeans for their babies and toddlers.

Children’s apparel, including mini-skinny jeans, has been a rare bright spot in the beleaguered apparel industry even during these troubled economic times, according to this piece in the WSJ. Even though many parents cut back buying clothes for themselves, they have continued to spend on their kids. (Children’s clothing sales are up 5.3% year-to-date, over the same time last year, according to MasterCard Advisors’ SpendingPulse. Total apparel sales are up just 1.4%, the article says.)

And the jeans don’t come cheap. At babyGap and GapKids, for example, prices for skinny jeans range from $19.50 to $39.50.

Besides skinny jeans, parents are also buying other adult-styled kids’ clothes, like motorcycle jackets and ankle jeans, under the theory that trendy clothes simply become more adorable the smaller they get. Soon Gap says it will be unveiling jeggings (leggings that look like jeans) for kids.

"Mojo in the Morning" co-host Shannon Murphy has won a contest to host "Live with Regis and Kelly" next week, it was announced this morning.
Murphy will fill in for the vacationing Kelly Ripa and host the show with Regis Philbin. Murphy is one of four winners chosen from a nationwide contest, voted on by fans. Nearly 150,000 votes were cast in the contest, according to Philbin.
On-air on WKQI-FM (95.5), Murphy screamed excitedly when her name was read on "Live with Regis and Kelly." Mojo producers cued up Jay-Z and Alicia Keys' "Empire State of Mind," signifying Murphy's trip to New York.

"This is amazing. ... This is the most amazing feeling in the whole world!" Murphy said. "I can't talk. I love you guys!"
Earlier this week, Murphy was named as one of 10 finalists in the contest, which sought women in radio to co-host "Live." Other winners named this morning were Jayde Donovan from XL 106.7 in Orlando, Jenn Hobby from Q100 in Atlanta and Kristin Cruz from KOST-FM (103.5) in Los Angeles. Each will host a day with Reege next week.
"I could not be more proud to represent this city," said Murphy, tearing up as "Mojo" came to a close.
Murphy's episode is slated to air Tuesday, Aug. 17, and Murphy was already asking the important questions. "What am I gonna wear?" she wondered aloud on-air.

Susan Smith

In 1994, the nation watched in shock as Union County Sheriff Howard Wells announced the arrest of Susan Smith on two counts of murder in the deaths of her sons.

Fast forward 16 years, and a new case from Orangeburg County is drawing similarities from the Smith case. Both cases involve investigators questioning the mother's story of what happened.

Smith pleaded for the return of her young sons. She claimed a carjacker stole her car with her children in the back seat.

About one week later, investigators pulled Smith's car from the bottom of Lake John D. Long near Union with two young bodies strapped inside.

Wells and the Union County Sheriff's Department charged Smith with murder.

A jury convicted Smith of the murders of 3-year-old Michael and 14-month-old Alexander. She is currently serving a life sentence.

Of course, the obvious difference in the two cases is that Smith was charged with murder, while the mother in Monday's case is charged with leaving the scene of an accident.

Fox News and Wall Street Journal parent company News Corp donated $1 million to the Republican Governors Association in June, Bloomberg BusinessWeek reported.

The media conglomerate, controlled by Chairman and CEO Rupert Murdoch, took advantage of the unlimited donations corporations can give to governors' associations (from Bloomberg BusinessWeek):

The Republicans' biggest corporate donor was New York-based News Corp. Teri Everett, a spokeswoman, said the company "actively supports organizations that advocate a pro-job, low tax, economic growth agenda."

News Corp. opposes proposed federal rule changes that would weaken the position of its Fox network in negotiations with cable companies. Governors may have a stake in the issue. In March, for example, New York Governor David Paterson stepped in with a call for binding arbitration in a dispute over fees between Bethpage, New York-based Cablevision Systems Corp. and Burbank, California-based Walt Disney Co.'s ABC.
News Corp made the $1 million donation on June 24, according to Politico's Ben Smith (and a filing).

As Smith points out, News Corp's highest-ranking Democratic executive, former #2 exec Peter Chernin, left the company last year. Murdoch's liaison to the Democratic party, communications executive Gary Ginsberg, also left the company last year.

"News Corporation believes in the power of free markets, and the RGA's pro-business agenda supports our priorities at this most critical time for our economy," a company spokesman told Smith.

Bobby Thompson

If you’re a baseball fan of any age, you’ve heard the legend of Bobby Thompson and the Shot Heard Round The World. I’m not sure if they awarded MVP trophies back then as in 19512 most played for the love of the game, not the multi-million dollar salaries that they pay to 17 year olds like Bryce Harper.
No, these guys “earned” it and no one earned it more than Bobby Thompson who was the star of the 1951 baseball playoffs.

In the 3rd and deciding game of the 1951 NL playoffs, Thompson hit a two-run blast in the bottom of the ninth inning that capped, what is thought by many, to be the greatest pennant race in the history of baseball. Hence..the now famous “Shot Heard Round The World”.
The Giant’s Win The Pennant! The Giant’s Win The Pennant! The Giant’s Win The Pennant! The Giant’s Win The Pennant!…listen to the most famous sports broadcast of the era below.

On August 11th 1951 the Giants stood 13 1/2 games behind the Dodgers in the National League standings. The Giants went on to win 37 of their last 44 games and tied the Dodgers after the regular season ended.
After splitting the first two games the third game was played at the Polo Grounds on October 3rd, 1951. Thompson faced Ralph Branca that day and hit the 0-1 pitch into the lower deck in left field. Thompson, ironically, had hit a two run homer of Branca in the first game of the series.
Hall of Fame Giant announcer Russ Hodges made the dramatic call that day of Thompson’s home run. His “The Giants Win the Pennant” call rings down through the ages. The Giants had not only won the pennant–they had beaten the feared Dodgers.
On deck that day was a young rookie who was hoping to not have to come to bat. Willie Mays went on with the Giants to become the greatest player in their long history.
A picture exists of a Dodger player staying in his position to make sure everyone touched all of the bases. Jackie Robinson held his ground until he was assured that the runners had all touched properly. Several years later Robinson was traded to the Giants but retired instead rather than joining the hated Giants.
Bobby Thompson and Ralph Branca made many appearances together over the years and made a small livelihood of signing autographs.

Bobby Thomson, the man who hit the “shot heard ’round the world”, died Tuesday at the age of 86.

Collin College was in lockdown for about two hours. Campus activities have since resumed.

So much for late August/early September? It seems Chase Utley may be on the verge of returning to the Phillies' lineup:

Utley is scheduled to play both games of Clearwater's doubleheader on Monday, likely serving as the designated hitter for the second game. Asked if he could be with the big club on Tuesday, manager Charlie Manuel said it was "a probability."

The Phillies have made no definitive statements regarding Utley's return, but Will Carroll agrees with the notion that he could and should come back early this week. Which isn't to say that he'll be at 100 percent from the get-go, but just being able to pencil Utley's name into the lineup card should provide a tremendous boost.

Altamont Fair

The Altamont Fair starts tomorrow!

From a farmer’s perspective, if you’re showing livestock, you’ve been preparing for months. Choosing the animal, practicing with it, the fair paperwork, the health certificates, transportation, stall assignments, bathing, clipping, grooming, and all the rest. It’s a lot of work and you have to love what you do.

My favorite parts are the 4H kids, dressed in their whites, showing their sheep, goats, and cows. If you are ever a little concerned about ‘youth today’, these kids are a must see. They will put your mind at ease and fill you with a giddy joy. Watching the children handle their animals will also touch your heart in a myriad of ways.

If you are fortunate enough to watch any of the 4H shows or visit with the children and their animals – congratulate them, tell them you know how much work they put into showing their animals, and tell them you’re proud of them! I know I am and I won’t hesitate to let them know that they are very much appreciated.

I have a friend volunteering in the Wool Nook (near the sheep, I believe – and I LOVE sheep, especially Cotswolds and Wensleydales), and another friend and fellow T.U. blogger you might know, Chuck Miller, has entered some of his photographs in the fair.

Komo 4

Seattle – July 15, 2010 – KOMO 4 News, the Seattle ABC affiliate and Fisher Subsidiary, became the first news station to use Streambox Avenir live on-air. Streambox Avenir is an HD/SD broadcasting device that allows users to send live and file-based video from hard to reach locations that satellite trucks cannot go. The device can route live video through the Streambox Live Server or stream on-air for live broadcast. With battery power and the ability to bond up to eight 3G/4G wireless data cards, KOMO exhibited that Avenir is the ideal solution for field newsgathering and reporting where breaking news is happening.

KOMO 4 was on-site using Avenir featuring a local Seattle bridge story when they received notice of a truck on fire on I-5. The truck’s company headquarters was located a few blocks from where KOMO had been filming at the bridge, so KOMO decided there was a need for an urgent location change. Within minutes, Avenir gave the KOMO crew the ability to arrive at the building, set up, and begin streaming the breaking news broadcast before other news stations could set up their trucks and satellite feeds.

Quickly deployed, Avenir captured the breaking news. Since the unit is enabled with 3G bonding there was no need for a satellite truck and the crew arrived on the scene promptly after receiving the assignment.

Jason Toohey

Meet Jason Toohey, Jenny McCarthy’s boyfriend. While Jenny has been pretty quiet on the status of her extracurricular life since her split from Jim Carrey, her new man seems to be pretty proud of his catch. Reports are now confirming that Mr. Toohey and McCarthy are indeed dating.

So who is Jason Toohey? Well as Jenny McCarthy’s boyfriend, he certainly has something appealing about him. While Jim Carrey I am sure dished out many laughs, this guy seems to certainly be easy on the eyes. I mean geez, the guy is a fitness model so he better look good, right? But does he have the potential to be a lifelong companion? I am not so sure.

People magazine is reporting that Toohey is a 35-year old who resides in Las Vegas and works as a fitness model, actor, and stunt performer. His latest gig is a performer as a Pirate at the Treasure Island Hotel / Casino.

Jenny seems to be spending quite a bit of her time in Sin City herself. But are they shacking up? It may appear that way, but we doubt it. Jenny recently said, “I’ve been living in Vegas for about a month. My house is under construction right now in L.A. so I very well could be here until it’s done. It’s been awesome here.”

The couple recently were spotted at the Midsummer’s Night Dream party in Vegas together canoodling and enjoying each other’s company. His most recent status on Facebook presumably refers to the party he attended with Jenny. It reads: “Ok I’m going to a costume party and Im supposed to be a God. Any suggestions? I already thought of going as myself.” Ewww.

The couple has been dating supposedly since June of 2010. I give this one two more months tops. What do you think of Jenny McCarthy’s boyfriend Jason Toohey?

Yes, an article about libraries with Sh-h-h-h-h and it’s even in the title.

Actually, this is a very positive article about the goings on at the Tacoma Public Library even during a time of funding cuts.

From the Article:

There’s simply so much to do at the library these days. Besides maintaining their traditional role as the public’s key provider of books and information, libraries today serve as:

+ Job centers, where throngs of unemployed workers update résumés, learn interview skills and hunt through online job listings.

+ Tech centers, where patrons can update their Facebook pages on library computers or plug in personal laptops and connect to free WiFi. At home, library card-holders can log on to library websites to read magazines, get real-time homework help from tutors, and download audio books.

+ Education centers, sponsoring classes on computer skills and crafts, and talks running the gamut from genealogy to green household cleaners to creating publications called zines.

Entertainment and cultural centers, sponsoring movie showings, live performances and art exhibits – all free of charge.

People have really turned into themselves and are very solitary. They’re communicating on blogs and Facebook, but they don’t see people face to face. They don’t even go to work on a regular basis; they telecommunicate,” said Pierce County Library System spokeswoman Mary Getchell.

“People are yearning for this community center.”

The theme emerged while the 17-branch library system surveyed patrons last year to develop its 2030 facilities plan.

“We heard, ‘Where better to have this community center than the library?’ ” Getchell recalls. “ ‘You’re already open.’ ”

Yet at the same time people need libraries the most, libraries are facing challenges of their own.

The Pierce County Library System eliminated 24 positions this year to help cover a $1.5 million shortfall in a $28.6 million annual operating budget. The Tacoma Public Library is buying fewer books, DVDs, database subscriptions and other materials, and doing less maintenance to cope with a $1.9 million hit to its two-year budget, which now stands at $22.8 million.

Because of those funding challenges, library supporters stress that live performances, author appearances and special activities are supported through grants, donations or foundations, not taxpayer dollars.

Rielle Hunter

The incomparable Rielle Hunter, John Edwards' mistress, mother of his love child and possible sex tape partner, thinks she should be cashing in on this more.

The Rielle Deal is requesting all the profits from The Politician, the shocking tell-all memoir from Edwards' former aide and co-conspirator, Andrew Young.

Hunter believes she is entitled to all money generated by The Politician and any movie made from its contents, which largely revolve around herself.

In it, Andrew Young describes his efforts to help the former presidential candidate conceal his affair with Hunter and his paternity of their daughter.

Court documents allege that Rielle Hunter pictures and other personal property Young used in the book were private property and used illegally.

Hunter and Young spoke privately in a Charlotte courtroom last month. A grand jury is still investigating Edwards' use of campaign funds to silence her.

Young has testified that he helped Edwards cover up the affair and the fact that he knocked up Rielle, even claiming that he, not John, fathered the kid.

Rielle is also suing for every copy of the alleged John Edwards sex tape, made when she was pregnant with their child. You're welcome for that imagery.

Hunter also wants photos from Young's laptop and a computer file.

[Maureen O'Hara TCM schedule.] I was amazed by the beauty of Maureen O’Hara when I saw her as Esmeralda in The Hunchback of Notre Dame way back when (no, not 1939). I was also surprised by how poor their performance was in this movie. My opinion O’Hara skills actress remained mixed at best.
It is not just that his overall game is looking so much ice and fire – is true, which is probably more difficult to achieve than you think. But I would say the main problem for anyone trying to assess its quality is that for the most part, O’Hara has been given to work with nonsense. 20th Century Fox and RKO contract players wanted to act beautiful, that is about it.

The good: More affordable $299 price; slimmer, more compact design with quieter operation; all games in high-definition; easy-to-use interface; doubles as a Blu-ray and upscaling DVD player; built-in Wi-Fi; 120GB hard drive; HDMI output with 1080p support; no external power supply; built-in Web browser; free online gaming service.

The bad: Lacks backward support for PS2 games; no infrared port means non-Bluetooth universal remotes aren't compatible; online gaming, media, and commerce options still aren't as fully developed as Xbox Live, though they're getting better.

The bottom line: With a smaller design, more energy-efficient operation, lower price tag, and built-in Blu-ray and multimedia capabilities, the PS3 Slim delivers a compelling package for an affordable price.

Review:
Editors' note: In November of 2009, Sony introduced Netflix to the PlayStation 3 home console. Netflix subscribers can order a free PS3 Netflix Blu-ray Disc online from the site and must use it every time in order to stream a movie. Obama Seattle

A passenger aboard a float plane that violated the airspace around Air Force One while President Barack Obama was in town Tuesday was stunned to find out about the fuss that resulted, saying the incursion wasn't intentional.
The military scrambled fighter jets, and the two sonic booms from the Oregon Air National Guard F-15s startled many people in Western Washington.
The Cessna 180 float plane was flying to a seaplane base on Lake Washington, next to Seattle, from Lake Chelan in Eastern Washington, said passenger Laura Joseph. She told The Associated Press that neither she nor the pilot, Lee Daily, knew about Obama's visit or the air restrictions that accompany such a high-profile trip.

The Secret Service interviewed Daily after he landed at Kenmore Air on the north end of the lake, which had been shut down for the duration of the presidential campaign stop.

North American Aerospace Defense Command spokesman John Cornelio said the civilian aircraft left the restricted area before the two jets arrived from the Portland, Ore.-based 142nd Fighter Wing and that there was no intercept. He confirmed the jets produced the sonic booms.
In a statement Tuesday evening, the Oregon Air National Guard said the jets were cleared to accelerate to supersonic speed minutes after takeoff. The Guard said the booms were heard by people from Longview, Wash., to the Puget Sound area.
Joseph, of Normandy Park, said she saw an F-15 outside the window as the plane approached Seattle.
"I saw a jet, just a white jet going by," she said. "I thought it was kind of odd to see a military jet."
The fighter only passed by the float plane once and didn't take any other action, Joseph said.
Joseph said she and Daily didn't know anything was wrong until they landed and were told they had to talk to the Secret Service. She also said she didn't hear the sonic booms.
"Oh my God, I can't believe — is this the top news thing?" she said.
Joseph said she and Daily were allowed to leave after being interviewed by the Secret Service and haven't heard anything yet about possible sanctions.
Obama was in Seattle to stump for Sen. Patty Murray on a three-day campaign swing for endangered Democrats. Air Force One was on the ground at King County International Airport/Boeing Field in south Seattle at the time of the incident shortly after 1:30 p.m. The president's plane departed Seattle at 3:47 p.m.
The Air National Guard said the jets returned to Portland shortly before 3 p.m.
The two sharp booms, a few seconds apart, rattled windows in Seattle. Fire and police officials throughout the region said they were swamped with calls.
Oregon Air National Guard Staff Sgt. John Hughel said the F-15s were scrambled by NORAD from Portland International Airport. He said the guard has two fighters always on alert to patrol the air space from central California to the Canadian border.

US News College Rankings
US News College Rankings: One of the most popular, but unofficial, articles about summer reading lists for high school and college is the ranking of the U.S. press of the school, which was published today. I bet that most juniors and seniors read this list of The Catcher in the Rye or To Kill a Mockingbird. There are not many surprises: Harvard, Princeton and Yale sits atop the list of universities and Williams, Amherst and Swarthmore College in the lead. United States:
News and other classifications, such as The Princeton Review also give students and alumni to talk about. I am sure that everyone in New Haven that the list is false, while students who pass the statue of John Harvard, every day is not going to change anything. (And I am appalled that the classification criteria to my alma mater, Wesleyan University, tied for # 12 in college.
Go Wes! In Maryland, the good news is that the University of Maryland, Baltimore County has been Gone the top of U.S. News and coming list and the flagship campus in College Park finished 20th in the list

Us News And World Report : Harvard took first place this year alone, U.S. News AND  World Report 2011, ranks the best colleges. Previous number (tied Harvard), Princeton fell to number two. Rounding out the top five best college rankings Columbia at Yale and Stanford.
It is the side limbs of Williams College was the number one, followed by Amherst, Swarth more, Middlebury and Wellesley.
Best Colleges rankings $ U.S. News World Report is widely regarded as the most influential college rankings, and is an annual printed edition has always been the best selling. This year has seen some minor changes used to compile the rankings, with greater attention to graduation rates, which seems a smart move.
There is already a reaction from the list, with NPR to ask whether the classification has really nothing to say. They argue that the lists do not really seem to change too much from year to year, which is difficult to defend (to ensure that there are some minor redesign, but it’s not as if Harvard will never give up the top 10 for example).
However, leaves more into the business school ranking by Forbes reported earlier this month the third annual Best Colleges issue.

Shaquan Duley : Shaquan Duley charged with murder.
Two young children were pulled dead from their child seats in a submerged car and South Carolina authorities expressed doubts about the mother’s account that it was an accident.
Two-year-old Devean C. Duley and 18-month-old Ja’van T. Duley were dead in their child seats by the time divers got to the car Monday near a rural boat landing, Orangeburg County Sheriff Larry Williams said. County Coroner Samuetta Marshall would not speculate on a cause of death until autopsies were completed Tuesday, and police were trying to determine whether their deaths were accidental.
The boys’ mother, 29-year-old Shaquan Duley, was charged with leaving the scene of an accident and it was unclear if she had a lawyer.
But Williams said that early in the investigation, state patrol officers felt the facts didn’t support that there was accident.
“We are looking into all possibilities as to what happened,” the sheriff said.
Highway Patrol was notified around 6:15 a.m. that a woman needed help getting her children out of a car. Shaquan Duley, who did not have a cell phone, had walked some distance down the country road by the boat landing and flagged down a passing motorist to call the Highway Patrol.
The sheriff said investigators were considering how a traffic accident could have happened at the boat ramp, about 20 yards upstream from a main road that crosses the North Edisto River in Orangeburg, some 35 miles south of Columbia, the state capital.
“She showed some emotion, but I can’t say she was overly distraught,” Williams said of Shaquan Duley. “Through her statements, there are some things we think are not believable.”
Williams planned a news conference for 10 a.m. Tuesday to discuss more details of the case. Sheriff’s spokeswoman Keisa Peterson said early Tuesday she was unaware of additional charges.
A woman who watched divers pull the toddlers’ limp bodies out of the car near her home said she couldn’t understand why the boys’ mother didn’t bang on her door for help. Ramona Milhouse, whose side porch door is steps from the river, said at first Monday she thought the boys were unconscious, until she realized their bodies were being taken to the ambulance with no attempt to revive them.
“It sounds fishy to me,” the 81-year-old Milhouse said. “If that was an accident, that woman would’ve been over here screamin’ and hollerin’ and really raising the devil.”
