Nucky Thompson:Nucky Thompson instead of Tony Soprano. Atlantic City to ban, rather than the northern edge of contemporary New Jersey. Irish stew instead of Italian pasta.
There are other differences between the “Boardwalk Empire” and “The Sopranos”, but not the least of which is that the recent cultural phenomenon and TV guide, while the former has the atmosphere of the episode, though it happens in the evening on September 19.
But the overall pinstriped thread between 2 includes HBO and gangster genre, which is enough to inflate expectations for “Boardwalk Empire,” and stir hopes that the new series will require a kind of compulsory viewing her knee-shattering predecessor enjoyed.
“It is a goal,” said Emmy-winner Terence Winter, the creator and executive producer of “Boardwalk Empire”, which was also the executive producer of “The Sopranos”.
“Whether we achieve this remains to be seen,” he continued. “If I learned anything from (” The Sopranos “Creator), David Chase, it will always be interesting. We want to try and tell stories that are compelling and make people watch. … I certainly think that this kind of show people want to tune in and feel like they have to see it. ”
In other cable networks, claiming some of the prestige of the turf that once belonged to HBO “, Boardwalk Empire,” perhaps only the charisma to return the network in the upper part of programming heap.
“HBO, obviously recovered after a stormy patch post-production, ‘Sopranos,” said Maureen Ryan, who recently became a television critic AOL after having served in that position at the Chicago Tribune for the past six years.
“True Blood” was a hit on the network and gives HBO a lot of momentum, “said Ryan.” But as the (AMC) ‘Mad Men “and” Breaking Bad’, it seems, has won prestige and drama drawing lately, not only with awards given to the body but to culture as a whole. ”
“True Blood” has a lot of noise, but nobody will say that this is one of the most complex smart show on television. ‘Boardwalk Empire’ gives HBO a real chance to regain the quality of TV crown from other networks and to restore itself as the home of the best drama 1:00.
The show, based on the nonfiction book “Boardwalk Empire: The Birth, High Times and Corruption of Atlantic City by Nelson Johnson, revolves around one character, an Irishman named Nucky Thompson. Half of the local politician, half gangster, he makes a permanent fixture between civil respectability and direct underhandedness.
Series holds much the presence of Martin Scorsese, who directed the pilot, serves as executive producer and said Winter, then participate in reading scripts and watching the reduction of each episode.
