Dubai, a city of the United Arab Emirates, witnessed the crash of a cargo plane owned by US-based United Parcel Service (UPS), leaving two its crew members dead on the spot, officials said.

The flight, after its take-off from Dubai airport, met with the mishap when it tried to make an emergency landing. It crashed in the desert area of a UAE military base with no population, on Friday.

It has been reported that airplane’s cockpit had already contracted fire before it collapsed.

Dan Nolan, from Al Jazeera, expressed that the aircraft, Boeing 747, was heading towards Cologne in Germany and there was huge cloud of smoke in the area.

The fire and smoke in the cockpit was reported by the pilot and he was instructed to return to Dubai, as stated by Saif al-Suwaidi, the General Manager of the country's civil aviation authority.

He said, "After failing to land at the airport, the plane disappeared from radar screens and was found later at the crash site".

The dead bodies of the two pilots have been discovered at the site, as reported by the official news agency Wam.

The inquiry into the cause of the crash is going on, but it’s too early to cite any reason, expressed Ismail al-Baroushi, a spokesman for the aviation authority.
