Black Berry Tourch 9800 Coming In Markets

The BlackBerry Torch is the first BlackBerry smartphone to launch with BlackBerry 6, a new operating system that retains the familiar and trusted features that distinguish the BlackBerry brand while delivering a fresh, approachable and engaging experience that's powerful and easy to use.

The new BlackBerry tourch 9800 could help RIM produce a tablet, Gold added. RIM has struggled with effective touchscreen technology, especially with its first Storm smartphone, which could weigh on how well a touch-screen tablet would perform. But Dulaney said RIM's devices "must compete" with the other touch-screen smartphones in the market. "RIM cannot be absent from that market."

We’ve been using the device for over 5 days, yet we didn’t need more than a couple minutes to determine that the lock and mute keys on top of the device are extremely gentle. Since RIM AT&T doesn’t ship their flagship product with a holster (first time ever, I believe), we can’t tell you how many times the device got unlocked by mistake in our pockets. End of the world? No, but it’s not the best design that’s existed. While we’re talking about design, we’d have loved it if RIM would have pushed their device design identity forward a bit. Unfortunately the Torch looks pretty dated from a design perspective.

Our fear is that the Canadians have done too little to do that, given the state of the highly-competitive smartphone market today. Even if we could put aside the screen resolution, the Torch’s CPU is obviously struggling with what’s on the agenda today: that doesn’t bode well for future upgrades. It’s a shame considering the solid hardware, not exactly fashion-forward, true, but appealing in a sturdy, functional way.
