The Burger War Is Growing Day By Day

While many public restaurant and retail companies report same-store sales, McDonald's doesn't. Yet analysts believe that same-store sales have slipped for the fast-food giant in the past few quarters.

CKE announced that combined same-store sales at its two burger chains declined 3.6% in the four weeks ended Aug. 10, hopefully the "Big Carl" will help fatten sales for CKE.

For the topping, it was beefsteak tomatoes and lettuce fresh from her mother's garden, as well as her "salsa golf" (a mayo-ketchup blend).

"That was a little bit of heaven, right there on our plate," she said. "Nothing compares to the burgers of my youth, made with love by Mom and Dad."

A burger in fact, it’s a bovine parody of that old Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup commercials where a guy walking down the street with a chocolate bar crashes into a guy carrying an open jar of peanut butter and a new taste sensation is born.
