Tyler Colvin:Cubs outfielder Tyler Colvin is not expected to play again this season. He will spend at least the next few days, Ryder Trauma Center of Jackson Memorial tested while doctors try to prevent it from collapse of the lung.
Doctors use a procedure to prevent pneumothorax, collapsed lung, as air entered the chest wall after Colvin broken bits punctured his chest on the left side near the collarbone on Sunday, 13-3 win over the Marlins in the sun of life the stadium.
Procedure presupposes the existence of a tube in his chest open to keep air crash hurts lung. The monster, as happened Colvin ran the base of the second inning. Bat Catcher Welington Castillo broke as he hit twice left field.
Tyler Colvin looked out from under the third base to see where the ball goes, and Castillo ran. None of them realized that to happen.
When he saw Colvin ball will be hit, he turned in time to feel the sharp edge of the bat piercing his chest. He still scored and, apparently, tried to shake it.
“I thought he was good,” pitcher Jeff Samardzija said. “We were sort of joking around, I saw something on his shirt. I said:” Hey, man, maybe you better get inside. ”
The team spokesman said Colvin suffered minimal external bleeding, although the depth of the wound is not immediately clear.
The incident left Cubs very upset with the maple bat, which was used for Castillo and is popular with players.
“This is a threat maple bat,” Jeff Baker said. “I saw a judge get slashed in the neck in Kansas City. It’s just not worth it to me to use this type of bat. I do not want that on my conscience.”
Manager Mike Quade, who do not understand Tyler Colvin was hurt before and after the incident, was just as candid.
“I was amazed that this does not happen often,” said Quade. “Over the past 10 years, I’ve seen a lot of ammunition there. Sometimes I have seen this happen three or four times a night, where bats get snapped in half. Many years ago, I do not remember that happening often.”
Castillo said he used maple bats “whole life”.
But the sight was terrible for Colvin, who was his teammate in the minors for three years.
“I simply hope that he comes out of this OK”, said Castillo.
Quad believe that physical Colvin may play a role in overcoming this terrible injury.
“He’s such a strong guy in the upper part of the body,” said the manager. “Perhaps it helped him.
