Brief biography, a video routine and photos are here.

Details of the event are sketchy at this point. Four days ago he was riding shotgun in a car driven by Robert Schimmel daughter. She reportedly swerved to avoid collision and lost control of the vehicle. She only 19 years old and must be devastated by the news. Our hearts go out to her and Robert Schimmel’s wife Melissa who divorced him last year.

The news of his passing was reported by fellow comedian Jimmy Kimmel via Twitter, although he did not have positive confirmation. You can read more here and here and  here.

The last link is Kimmel’s tweet. They were friends and he reported this to his 135,000 followers:

“I have no official confirmation but am told that Bob passed away. I hope I have been given bad information, but don’t think so.”

Let’s hope for bad information.

As a biography Schimmel was born January 16, 1950 which makes him 60 years old. He made frequent appearances on HBO comedy specials and his caustic sense of humor brought him to the Howard Stern show on multiple occasions.

He has had a difficult family life which saw two divorces and tragedy. His first wife was Vicki Schimmel with whom he had four children after marrying in 1977 at the age of 27 years old. One of their children (Derek Schimmel) passed from cancer when only 11 years old, and as many couple do in such circumstances, their marriage could not survive the catastrophic event.

After the first divorce he married Melissa Schimmel and fathered two more children. That makes six grieving children and two distraught ex-wives, as well as countless fans who cherished his brand of entertainment.

Robert Schimmel also endured chemotherapy for cancer ten years ago and a heart attack two years prior. He seemed to be a survivor.

See the video below as a tribute to his legacy and more thumbnail pictures that you can blow up. His sweet face did not match his famous mouth.

In the video clip he talks about his first experience with girls and has the audience in his hands. Readers, please share your thoughts in the comments about the man.
