Archie Manning:Archie Manning–That’s good, Peyton Manning lives in Indianapolis. Here, at least, he should not see his hometown enjoying his expense.
The first in New Orleans, Saints paraphernalia adorns everything from corner stores in boy shops. Sponsors packaging products in the brand team Fleur-de-lis emblem and Super Bowl-sealing interception return of Tracy Porter has been replayed countless times on local and national television.
Manning trying to stay away.
“Nothing,” he replied firmly shook his head when asked what fans of the saints said to him during the off-season.
In fact, the Colts defender and four-time MVP was so busy trying to bring a big party to Indy, he did not spent much time in the South.
He went through rehabilitation after the operation, the off-season neck, slipped on a trip with his father at the golf tournament, and spent several months in the destruction of every snap he spent the 2009 season, an annual tradition. He took the national prize for his charity work, back in Indiana, and after that there was not a whole lot of rest he could or wanted to do, where he grew up.
Manning made his Thibodaux, La., for the annual Academy of Family passes, and Peyton and brother Eli cut commercials for his hometown team belongs.
For the first family of football, it was better.
“People say that is a great time and we understand that” Archie Manning, patriarch of the family and a former defender of New Orleans, told Associated Press. “I love the people here, and I love football, but it was awkward for us. It was a big win for the saints and the great thing for the city, but I think some people forget that we were on the other side.”
Peyton, of course, increased fan of the saints and the son of the first great player of the saints. Saints defender today, Drew Brees, became a close friend of Manning’s brother, Cooper, and Archie is still running in circles of saints, too. Here’s how he got to be the same cocktail as the Saints coach Sean Payton.
Most residents of New Orleans seem to realize how difficult it was to the Mannings, and do not dare to raise this issue.
Just sometimes, when Archie goes into town, the one who drinks too much or a little overzealous says something he can not shrug off, and he returns to being a father.
“I had one guy said to me:” Tell Peyton thanks for throwing that interception, “Archie recalls.” I have already said a few guys to do some things that, well, humanly impossible. Most people were very good about it, but few of them were simply rude and unpleasant, but when I’m in some of these parameters, it is very inconvenient curse.
So embarrassed that Archie did not even Peyton said everything he heard in the city, where Munnings became synonymous with the city’s image.
Archie remained in New Orleans after retiring from the NFL and returned, in contrast to the other, after Hurricane Katrina struck the Gulf Coast. As recently as last year, Archie has repeatedly acknowledged that he has faithfully followed the three teams – Colts Peyton, Giants, Eli and saints.

When Hurricane Katrina hit was Peyton and Eli, which comes complete plane of humanitarian aid to the city. Peyton has used its charitable activities, Peyback fund to assist children in Indianapolis, Knoxville, Tenn., and New Orleans, and this summer, the brothers donated nearly 200 pairs of new shoes Reebok in 8 city schools.
Obviously, so far Mannings, as the city and fans, and they do not begrudge people for the celebration. They just want the fans of his saints, and not Peyton.
“The first time he (Peyton) was returned to the golf tournament, after he had his neck surgery. He could not play, but he came anyway, so people are not able to say that he did not come because of the Super Bowl, “Archie recalls. “And sure enough, we get through the tournament and someone with a mind of it. I just said:” Let’s move on. ”
The solution was simple: Stay in town for some time.
Archie and his wife, Olivia, spent more time than usual, in Mississippi, this summer, in particular, in order to avoid unnecessary confrontations.
“We just kind of came out of this situation,” said Archie. “I do not take it personally. People are celebrating, having a good time, and most of the time, it was quite normal. We just did not expect some of these people, angry and rude.”
Payton took a similar tack.
He did not want her to see, hear, or even around him this summer.
Instead, it was as usual so Manning can win at Dallas (host Super Bowl), and notes in Indy next February.
“All we know to do is to go back and work again,” said Payton. “We will continue to work very hard, and I hope we will take another step forward this year.
