Window World, the nation’s largest replacement window company, has raised $1.5 million for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®, one of the world’s premier centers for the research and treatment of pediatric cancer and other catastrophic childhood diseases.
“I have never been more proud of the Window World family”
The $1.5 million goal was set by the company less than two years ago after becoming a corporate partner of St. Jude and represents the total cost to operate the hospital for one day. Funds were raised through Window World’s charitable foundation, Window World Cares.
“I have never been more proud of the Window World family,” said Tammy Whitworth, CEO of Window World and co-founder of Window World Cares. “It has been a dream of mine and the company’s to reach this goal since we began our St. Jude relationship. Thanks to the passionate fundraising and generosity of the Window World employees, customers and partners, we are making a real difference for the children of St. Jude.”
The fundraising goal was reached with fanfare at the company’s annual “Family Reunion” conference on August 15 as nearly 1,000 Window World employees and corporate partners, as well as St. Jude representatives and a patient family, gathered for the final evening of the event. Through a company auction and employee donations, the group raised $500,000 in just three hours.
The highlight of the event was the auction of two custom Window World choppers, designed and built by Paul Teutul, Sr., owner of Orange County Choppers and star of the hit TLC reality show, “American Chopper.” The Window World choppers generated a total of $100,000 for St. Jude.
“The Window World project has been a great experience from start to finish,” said Paul Teutul, Sr. “I jumped at the challenge of creating a bike that would embody the Window World culture, products and people, and the Orange County Choppers crew and I had a good time building them. Knowing the bikes raised so much money for a deserving charity like St. Jude makes the project even more rewarding.”
The custom choppers will make their TV debut Thursday, August 19 at 9:00 p.m. ET on the second episode of “American Chopper: Senior vs. Junior” on TLC. For more information, visit http://tlc.discovery.com/tv/american-chopper/.
In addition to the bikes, Window World ambassadors Kathy Ireland and NASCAR and Indy Car driver John Andretti lent their talents for the event to help raise money for the hospital. Kathy Ireland showcased custom-designed, hand-crafted jewelry up for auction via video message, while John Andretti personally auctioned his racing suit and car hood from the 2010 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, which were signed by each of the drivers from this year’s Budweiser Shootout. All proceeds went to St. Jude.
