Orbitel Communications has announced the addition of two football channel packages for its Maricopa customers, NFL RedZone and ESPN GamePlan. These exciting Pay-Per-View channels bring Orbitel fans of NFL and college football more coverage this season than ever before.

“These are great packages for football fans, and very affordable,” said Gina Linville, Orbitel Vice President of Operations and Customer Service. “NFL RedZone is only $49.95 for the entire 16-week NFL season. ESPN GamePlan will show up to 15 key college football match-ups each week in top conferences, all for only $135 for the season.”

NFL RedZone was introduced last year by the NFL Network, Orbitel cable channel 70 and HD channel 870. On each Sunday beginning September 12, as NFL teams have a scoring drive inside the 20 yard line “red zone”, the action will be shown live on NFL RedZone, Orbitel channel 400. The NFL RedZone package is $49.95 for the entire season. “That is less than $3 a week,” said Linville, “which is pretty outstanding for an NFL package! The idea is to show every touchdown on every Sunday from all across the league.” Fans who love NFL will enjoy the excitement of NFL RedZone.

ESPN GamePlan, on Orbitel channels 460-465, kicks off Saturday Sept 4th. Each Saturday ESPN GamePlan will show up to 15 additional college football games from the SEC, ACC, Big East, Big 12, Pac-10, WAC, MAC, and Sun Belt conferences. The ESPN GamePlan package can be purchased by Orbitel customers for $135 for the full season. ESPN GamePlan uses up to six different channels to add out of market coverage for college football fans.

The addition of NFL RedZone and ESPN GamePlan come right after Orbitel announced its addition and exclusive carriage of MTN HD, Orbitel Channel 945. The addition of these eight new channels continues to demonstrate Orbitel’s commitment to add programming of interest to its customers.

To order NFL RedZone or ESPN Game Plan, call Orbitel at (520) 568-8890. There are no long term contracts and no equipment to buy.

Virgin Mifi Price

Virgin Mifi unveils the device price and rates. With the Broadband2Go MiFi you can set up a wireless Wi-Fi hotspot and connect up to 5 Wi-Fi enabled devices to the internet – laptops, desktops, gaming devices, and more.

Unlimited 3G internet at home or on the go. Surf the web, check email – just $40/month, all at 3G speed.

How is the Broadband2Go MiFi device different from the Broadband2Go USB Device? Even though you can access Virgin Mobile’s Broadband2Go service using both types of devices, they each work slightly differently:

- The MiFi device creates a wireless Wi-Fi hotspot that lets you connect up to 5 Wi-Fi enabled devices to the internet at once – laptops, desktops, gaming devices, you name it.

- The USB device plugs directly into your computer, so you can only connect a single device (your computer) to the internet at a time.

Miami Hurricanes Football Videos

The Miami Hurricanes will enter the 2010 CFB season as the #4 ranked team according to the Sporting News. Of course a lot of other pre season polls have them quite lower, but they are a top 25 team as the CFB season starts tonight. Junior QB Jacoby Harris is fastly becoming a skilled playmaker, but he must cut down on his interceptions, he had 17 in 2009. The ‘Canes also have a lot of staff returning and continuity with that should pay off big in 2010.

The key date on their schedule is September 11th at Ohio State. The Hurricanes must travel to the Horseshoe for a rematch of the 2003 Fiesta Bowl. It seems that this is the biggest Non Conference game for the ACC all season. They get a big test the next week when they travel to Pittsburgh, and save the opener against Florida A & M spend September on the road in the North.

The next big thing for this team is Jamal Reid. This red shirt freshman was all the talk of spring ball and is expected to push for a starting safety job very soon. Without a doubt he is one of the finest DB recruits the country over.

This was a 9-4 team a year ago, and they finished in the top 25 rankings for the first time in four years. The players take great pride in having rebuilt this program into an elite status, but feel that much work remains. This is a hungry team, and that usually means they will go out and get things done.

South Carolina Football

Praise Jesus, college football has returned at last. Sure it's Thursday night, and yes it's mainly snoozer match-ups, but it's still college football damnit!

The South Carolina v. Southern Miss game ought to be particularly interesting for Tide fans. We have to make the road trip to Columbia in five weeks, so it'll be interesting to see if South Carolina can finally make some noise in the SEC East this year.

Also, we've got major drama brewing in Columbia. Travis Henry is following the story, and it seems like a lot of key Gamecock players may miss this game, including guys like Marcus Lattimore, Chris Culliver, Ladi Abijoye, Akeem Auguste, and others. Some of it is apparently Hotel-gate, but others not, and of course we all knew Weslye Saunders wouldn't play in this game. Henry says it involves something like a dozen players. Apparently the NCAA was supposed to let them know one way or the other by 5:00, but that passed with no word and now the Carolina coaches aren't happy. For now the players are separated from the rest of the team in the weight room, awaiting a last minute ruling from the NCAA. I suppose Spurrier will keep these guys out of the game if they don't be cleared before kickoff, so they could be playing at a big disadvantage. Either way, they've got less than an hour to get the good news and get ready to go.

In any event, South Carolina and Southern Miss kicks off at 6:30 central time on ESPN. Chime in with all of your thoughts and comments on the this game here, as well as some other games from tonight, such as Pitt v. Utah and Lane Kiffin's USC debut in Hawai'i.

Mariner Energy

The U.S. Coast Guard said this morning  that a natural gas and oil drilling platform exploded 80 miles off the coast of Louisiana. A Coast Guard spokesperson said the platform, Vermilion Oil Rig 360, is an oil and gas platform in 2,500 feet of water and is owned by Houston-based Mariner Energy. It is not currently producing oil or gas. Apache Corp. recently purchased Mariner in a multi-billion dollar deal.

Just yesterday, however, the Financial Times reported that employees from Apache and Mariner, along with thousands of oil industry workers, rallied in Houston to protest the Obama administration’s offshore drilling moratorium that was designed as a safety precaution after BP’s disastrous Gulf oil spill. A Mariner Energy employee chastised the Obama administration for its drilling moratorium, which would not have affected the rig that exploded today:

Companies ranging from Chevron to Apache bussed in up to 5,000 employees to the Houston convention centre to underline to Washington the industry’s contribution to the country. [...]

“I have been in the oil and gas industry for 40 years, and this administration is trying to break us,” said Barbara Dianne Hagood, senior landman for Mariner Energy, a small company. “The moratorium they imposed is going to be a financial disaster for the gulf coast, gulf coast employees and gulf coast residents.”

Apache Corp. recently agreed to buy BP assets in order to help the British oil giant meet its financial obligations as a result of its Gulf of Mexico oil spill.

Thirteen workers were on the rig when it exploded; the Coast Guard has said that “all 13 workers involved in the production platform explosion are accounted for, but one person is injured.”

Update The Washington Post reports, “In its recent Securities and Exchange filing, the company said that the Interior Department’s moratorium on deep-water drilling in the Gulf of Mexico had affected Mariner’s operations. It said its operations ‘may be impacted in the future by increased regulatory oversight, which may increase the cost of’ Outer Continental Shelf wells ‘and delay drilling and production therefrom.’”

T.I. and Tiny Arrested Video

Rapper T.I. and wife Tameka "Tiny" Cottle were arrested late Wednesday night on drug charges after police smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from their car, allegedly. They were arrested for possession of a controlled substance during a traffic stop on Hollywood Boulevard. Now we understand how these two got together. Neither one of them seems to be wrapped too tight. This dude just got out of prison and is on parole. The wannabe hot couple have small children, so who's going to take care of them if their parents go to the pokey? How do you have five kids and get locked up for smoking weed while on parole? In our best Fred G. Sanford voice, "You big dummy!" Note to celebrities: Marijuana is not legal in California -- yet.

Marshall University

The Marshall University Foundation, Inc., building on the branding opportunities presented by the opening this year of its new facility on the Huntington campus, has adopted a new logo, Foundation CEO Dr. Ron Area announced today.

The logo, along with style and branding guidelines, was developed by ChannelNet, a company founded in 1985 by Marshall University graduate Paula Tompkins. Tompkins is a member of the Marshall University Foundation Board of Directors.

“This year has been one of new horizons for the foundation,” Area said. “Our new facility and our new brand reflect these advancements and a continued commitment to the support the foundation is able to develop for the university. We deeply appreciate the work that Paula Tompkins and her ChannelNet team have so graciously provided our organization.”

The new foundation logo was designed with emphasis on respect, diversity, integrity and pride. It calls to mind both academic and financial institutions. The integrated “M” featured in the column logo-mark connects these references to Marshall and the foundation.

“As an active member of the foundation board, I saw an opportunity to lend my company’s expertise in digital marketing to bring a new level of consistency and quality to the foundation, alumni association and foundation hall branding,” Tompkins said. “I am extremely pleased with the results and believe that our new modernized logo and brands standards will better represent the quality of our organizations in a 21st century web enabled world.”

The Marshall University Foundation Hall, Home of the Erickson Alumni Center, opened in February 2010. The 33,220-square-foot building is located at 519 John Marshall Dr.
