Martin Kaymer birdied three of the first four holes and then dug in, clinging to a one-stroke lead at the turn Sunday at the PGA Championship.
As for the rest of the leaderboard, keep the eraser handy. And that’s only fitting, considering it’s the final major in this most unpredictable of seasons.
Martin Kaymer , a 25-year-old German, was at 11 under when he made the turn. Zach Johnson and Steve Elkington, the only ones in the top 10 to win a major, were at 10 under.
Dustin Johnson and Rory McIlroy, two of the most promising young players on either side of the Atlantic, were part of the group at 9 under.
As for 54-hole leader Nick Watney, he’s in full meltdown mode, making double bogey on his first hole and a triple bogey on the par-4 No. 7 after dunking his ball into Lake Michigan. He’s at 6 over for the day through eight holes. Martin Kaymer
