Jennifer Aniston & Harry Morton?

Jennifer Aniston is being crucified by the gossip sites and she was seen dating the former boyfriend of Lindsay Lohan. We refer to the Hard Rock Café Harry Morton descending gently as they were dining at the Sunset Tower hotel.

Do you have bad Jen is collecting waste from Lindsay Lohan? In fact, Jennifer Aniston seems to be in love with Morton as she was photographed patting their arms while they dined. Another thing is that Morton is 12 years younger than Jennifer Aniston. Well, if she is happy with him, who are we to get in the way?

Jennifer Anniston, the lead actress in the movie The Switch, was disappointed enough with the change of title of the film.

During the opening night of his latest film, The Switch, said the film's original title, The Baster, was more "cool" that the title changed. The new title was over 375 trials and meetings and focus group discussions. Anniston implies that it is useful to have the Baster as the title.

The film revolves around the story of an unmarried woman who wanted to have a baby, not the natural means of sexual reproduction, but just a sperm donor.

Jennifer Anniston, who was known popularly in its passage through Friends, attended the first screening of the film wearing a strapless mini dress. The actress was accompanied by co-actor Jason Bateman at the Arclight Theater.

Anniston States, "I wanted it was still called The Baster, changed because of 375 tests and meetings and focus groups. Baster cool names like The are activated at the switch."

The film, especially Jennifer Anniston, was accused of providing negative message to the public. Critics say the Anniston is to show the public that the concept of having a father is no longer important in a family.

Moreover, Anniston went through some controversy after she said the film showed that men are no longer a necessary ingredient in the formation of a family. "

Oil Rig Explosion

Another oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico exploded today. All crew members survived. Right now, nobody knows whether or not the explosion caused a leak in any of the seven wells that the rig collects from. There have been reports of an oil slick on the water near the fire, but that could just as easily be from the finite amount of oil stored on the rig—which would still a spill, but a significantly less problematic one.

Other than that, there's not really much information out about this right now. If anybody's learned anything from Deepwater Horizon it seems to be that you're better off, PR-wise, if you don't have to correct everything you say two days later.

To give you something to chew over in the meantime, though, Deep Sea News has been doing a really interesting series on the science (such as it is) of oil dispersants. It's interesting, not just because of the basic facts, but also because it gets into the details of why we don't know more.

Dispersants must be applied successfully and have a high effectiveness once in ocean waters. This sounds easy, in principle--once you've perfected your Corexit formula in the lab, just spray it from a helicopter, and voila! Except there are a lot of factors which you also have to take into account: the composition of the oil spilled, sea energy, whether the oil has been subjected to weathering at all, exact type of dispersant used and the amount which you sprayed, and ocean temperature/salinity.

Thank goodness for all those lab tests over the years which figured all this stuff out, you say. Um, well actually it seems like even designing simulation experiments is difficult, and different tests can report different effectiveness scores for the same dispersant. It is difficult to accurately scale up lab tests in order to predict dispersant action on real spills. Older studies used methods and analyses which have since been discredited. Wave-tank tests can probably provide upper limits on dispersant effectiveness, but there are SEVENTEEN (!!) critical factors that require strict control for accurate results (Fingas 2002). Field tests in open ecosystems are even worse for measuring the fate of oil and controlling variables. In terms of measuring dispersant effectiveness, tank tests, field tests, and lab tests all disagree. Awesome.

Discovery Communications

SILVER SPRING, Md. (AP) — Police shot a man upset with the Discovery Channel network's programming who took three people hostage at the company's headquarters Wednesday, officials said. All three hostages escaped safely.

Montgomery County Police Chief Thomas Manger said he did not know whether police killed the gunman, who was upset about the network's programming. Police spent several hours negotiating with him after he burst into the suburban Washington building about 1 p.m. waving a handgun and with canisters strapped to his body.

Manger said an explosive device may have detonated, and the suspect may have brought other devices into the building. He said as far as he knows, the 1,900 people who work in the building were able to get out safely.

A law enforcement official speaking on condition of anonymity because the investigation was ongoing said authorities had identified James J. Lee as the likely suspect.

A different official, who spoke on condition of anonymity for the same reason, said Lee previously protested outside the building, where he was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct in February 2008, according to court records.

Police reports indicate he paid homeless people to join his protest and carry signs outside the building. He gave one individual $1,000 for what he considered a prize winning essay.

At one point, a crowd of more than 100 people gathered around Lee, 43, who referred to money as "just trash" and began throwing fistfuls of it into the air.

At the trial, The Gazette of Montgomery County reported, he said he began working to save the planet after being laid off from his job in San Diego. He said he was inspired by "Ishmael," a novel by environmentalist Daniel Quinn and by former Vice President Al Gore's documentary "An Inconvenient Truth."

A lengthy posting which could be seen Wednesday on a website registered to Lee expressed anger against the Discovery Channel and said it promoted overpopulation.

He said it and its affiliates should stop "encouraging the birth of any more parasitic human infants." Instead, he said, the network should air "programs encouraging human sterilization and infertility."

"NO MORE BABIES! Population growth is a real crisis," he wrote.

He also railed against "programs promoting War" and said solutions should be found for global warming and automotive and factory pollution.

"I want Discovery Communications to broadcast on their channels to the world their new program lineup and I want proof they are doing so," he wrote. "I want the new shows started by asking the public for inventive solution ideas to save the planet and the remaining wildlife on it."

Discovery Communications Inc. operates cable and satellite networks in the U.S., including The Discovery Channel, TLC and Animal Planet. Discovery shows include "Cash Cab" and "Man vs. Wild," and TLC airs "American Chopper" and "Kate Plus Eight."

Animal Planet also airs the controversial series "Whale Wars," about attempts by environmentalists to disrupt the Japanese whaling industry.

After Lee's arrest, a magistrate ordered a doctor's evaluation, but court records do not immediately indicate the result. Lee was convicted by a jury and served two weeks in jail. He was also ordered to stay 500 feet away from Discovery headquarters.

Adam Dolan, a sales director in Discovery's education division, told The Associated Press by phone that he was heading to lunch with a co-worker when he heard there was a situation in the building.

He was told to go back up to the top floor, lock the door and turn off the lights. Eventually the workers were herded down a stairwell and told to go home.

"Everyone was very scared, but at the same time ... I think people were calm and collected and responded as one would expect in this situation," said Dolan, 28.

When he got to the bottom floor, he saw shattered glass near the company's daycare and suspected it was broken to get the children out. He later got an e-mail that all the children were safe and had been taken to a McDonald's.

Dolan said the company has unarmed security guards who won't let anyone into the building without a badge.

Melissa Shepard, 32, of Peterborough, N.H., a consultant who works there during the week, said she was on the third floor in a large room with several other workers when someone announced over a loudspeaker that there was a situation in the lobby and people should stay at their desks.

After some time, they were told to move to the other end of the building. She said she was among a dozen workers who huddled into an office, shut the door and turned off the lights.

Then she said someone knocked on the door and told them to leave the building. She said there was some confusion as they were told to go to an upper floor or down the stairs.

"Finally, I screamed, 'tell us where we need to go...I just want to get out of there,'" she said. "I was shaking...I was like what do we do what do we do?'"

Authorities descended on the area, and people were being kept away from the main drag of the downtown area where the building is located amid restaurants and shops. Traffic was jammed.

Discovery Building

Earlier today, a gunman entered Discovery Channel's headquarters with a gun or some explosives (reports are still coming in), took some employees hostage, and demanded better science programming.

His demands, which are posted here, include the demand that Discovery Channel start airing shows that offer solutions to the planet's problems, and that "All programs promoting War and the technology behind those must cease."

The document also demands that Discovery stop promoting childbirth in its shows, and that it must "Develop shows that mention the Malthusian sciences about how food production leads to the overpopulation of the Human race. Talk about Evolution. Talk about Malthus and Darwin until it sinks into the stupid people's brains until they get it!!" The gunman also demands shows that offer solutions to problems with immigration, pollution, and the US economy.

So far, it appears that nobody has been hurt.

UPDATE: Police say the gunman is James Jay Lee, who has protested before at the Discovery Channel building. It appears that he has one hostage, still unhurt.

UPDATE: Police have shot the gunman, and his three hostages are now safe.

Brandon Spikes Video

And now for something completely different. The NFL is investigating the explicit video of Patriots linebacker Brandon Spikes  that was leaked onto the Internet, apparently to determine whether Spikes violated the league's personal conduct policy. "We are looking into it," NFL spokesman Greg Aiello told the Boston Herald.

At first we were left with questions whether it was actually Spikes engaging in sexual acts with a woman in the video, but Spikes' agent, Terry Watson, has since come forward to apologize on his client's behalf and called it an "embarrassing situation."

"It was something that occurred before he became an NFL draftee and a New England Patriot. I think for anyone it would be an embarrassing situation," Watson told ESPNBoston.com. "Brandon has shown to many people the kind of person he is before and after being drafted in the second round. He's hoping to put this behind him and looks forward to having a great football season."

Spikes, a second-round draft pick out of the University of Florida, became subject to the policy once he was selected in the NFL Draft. Assuming it's true that the video was recorded off chatroulette while Spikes was still in college, it would be pretty ridiculous to dock him anything beyond a small fine (and even that is debatable). Before the video surfaced, he'd done nothing but impress this preseason, racking up tackles in the Patriots' three games.

Spikes' cousin, Rakeem McSwain, told the Boston Herald that a woman could have put the video online without Spikes' knowledge, which is usually how these things seem to happen. "I don't think he'd do something like this," McSwain said. "He's got too much to lose. He's a good guy."

For those of you not in the know, chatroulette is a website on which you can have webcam-based conversations with random strangers. Some use it for things of an adult nature. Others use it to mock people and upload the fun to YouTube. It's debatable how many actual "conversations" happen on the site.

This whole mini-controversy should fade away before the Pats take the field for real football on Sept. 12 against Cincinnati. The lesson to be learned is clear, just like it was when defensive tackle Darnell Dockett was viewed showering online back in May: Keep your high-profile belongings off the web.

iTunes 10

Windows/Mac: If you were hoping for a totally redesigned, less twiddly iTunes 10, you're out of luck. But Apple added a social tool, Ping, for following artists and friends' tastes and tracking concerts. And your music list looks a bit tidier, too.
Better Use of Your Album Art

iTunes 10 Gets a Streamlined Interface, Adds a Social Network for MusicIf you just want to use iTunes to manage your music, it can still do that. And now your album list, instead of showing the same album name listed over and over next to songs from that album, will show the album art from that disc in that column instead (at a minimum of five or more album tracks). And the iTunes icon itself has dropped its note-on-a-CD scheme for a more modern, Apple-app-like look.
Ping Is a Music-Focused Social Network in iTunes

Ping is the big new thing in iTunes 10, though. Ping is, as Apple CEO Steve Jobs described it, "like Facebook and Twitter meet iTunes." Right off, it's helpful to know that it's entirely optional, like iTunes' Genius recommendation feature. You can either make yourself entirely open to the public, accessible only to approved friends, or off the Ping grid entirely.

iTunes 10 Gets a Streamlined Interface, Adds a Social Network for MusicYou can follow artists on iTunes to see, at a minimum, where they're playing concerts and when they've got new music or videos out, but if they're sharing other things—photos, other tracks they like, free content—you'll get that, too. You can also bring in friends to follow your own music choices, and follow them back, but it appears that Ping mainly tracks music purchases, not the tracks you're playing or previewing. For example, Ping features a top 10 list of music the people you're following are buying from iTunes, but—at least from Jobs' presentation—it doesn't sound like it offers any help when it comes to what your friends are actually listening to. So it's a lot less open than, say, Last.fm, and contained entirely inside iTunes, or your iPhone or iPod touch. It doesn't appear to be accessible at all via a web browser.

iTunes 10 Gets a Streamlined Interface, Adds a Social Network for MusicOne more small thing we noticed: iTunes has moved its close/minimize/restore buttons to the side of its window, at least on an OS X demonstration.

iTunes 10 was actually a small part of today's Apple music event. You can read up on all the new iPods, the much-improved iPod touch, and the total Apple TV revision at Gizmodo's complete Apple event coverage.

iTunes 10 will be available today for Windows and Mac systems.

My Life as Liz Season 2

Is there a My Life as Liz Season 2? Will a My Life as Liz Season 2 air, was it fake, and was the finale tonight … the series finale or just season finale?

My Life as Liz’s finale aired this evening on MTV. It’s leaving many questions unanswered. And if the net is any indication, the answers may not be good.

Tonight’s finale “The End of the Beginning” featured Liz considering moving to New York. Tonight was episode 9 of 9 for season 1 and got deemed the finale. But is it the season finale or series finale?

IMDB, Wikipedia and MTV do not list a season 2. IMDB generally lists upcoming seasons in production. No such season 2 in production is listed for My Life as Liz. So by all indications, tonight is the series finale. There is no season 2.

And is My Life as Liz fake?

IMDB lists the show as a “comedy”, not as a reality show, and says it is a “A pseudo-mockumentary focusing on sardonic 18 year old Liz Lee and her attempts to deal with life in her Texas town.”

Insiders say it was never completely real. Just people playing themselves in situations that were staged. So is it completely real? No. Completely fake? No.

MTV reportedly said of the show that “We don’t look at it as just a reality show — that doesn’t capture it. We weren’t going to call it a sitcom, because it’s not.”
