Psle Science 2010

The best PSLE notes are the notes that your child creates his/herself. The process that your child goes through to come up with the notes help more than you think. This is why it is important for them to spend some serious time sitting down and compiling what they have learnt into proper notes.

It forces them to review everything they have; learnt, organizes what they have learnt in a particular structure which helps them to remember it better and it forces your child to create linkages between different topics and chapters so they can create a logical flow to the notes.

Here are some other tips, which you can apply to further help your child’s revision process for a day before a PSLE exam. They can make quick mind maps without looking at their notes, which will help them to think through what they have learnt. They can help themselves remember a list of things by linking each item to a location that they are familiar with or they can even create a story out of whatever they have to remember.

For example, photosynthesis, mammals, warm blooded animals, lion, rabbits, cold-blooded animals, reptiles, snakes, and lizards. They can make a story out of this list of words. It doesn’t even have to make sense sometimes. Photosynthesis helps a mammal take photos of warm-blooded animals such as lions and rabbits but cold-blooded reptilian animals like snakes and lizards do not like to pose for pictures.

It doesn’t make sense. But it sure helps one to remember the key words required in a science paper.

Some other tips would be to help your child find a deep and compelling reason to learn a subject and pass an exam. This reason would motivate your child to succeed without being pushed by an external force.

Before any revision, get your child to do some warm up exercises to get some healthy oxygen flowing to the brain. You can also get you child to have 15-minute power nap to improve their concentration for the next round of revision.

Lastly remind your child to read each question on the exam paper carefully. Most children tend to miss out the instructions and lose marks when they actually could have answered it well if they had read the question properly.

To the children sitting for the PSLE 2010 papers, Good Luck!

ah boy... rich iott is running for congress in northern ohio. he is a republican. and he's enthusiastically supported by the tea party. and, well, he likes to dress up like a nazi. yup. when asked about nazi germany
he said: 'they accomplished incredible things' and 'gave their lives for their loved ones and a basic desire to be free'.
from the atlantic monthly:
'When asked whether his participation in a Nazi re-enactor's group might not upset voters, particularly Jewish voters, Iott said he hoped it would not: "They have to take it in context."
i guess the simple, practical, question is: do we really want or need elected federal officials who dress up like nazi's for fun in their spare time? here are some pictures of him and his friends.

Asana Yoga

Female infertility is a common Gynec problem among the women after the age of thirty years. The reasons for Female infertility are many. Harmonal imbalances, Irregular Cycles, anaovulatory cycles, Obesity, stress etc. are some of them. The doctors world wide suggest some hormonal treatments which will increase your weight drastically. As the saying goes, an increase of 5% in your weight will reduce the chances of conception by 20%. One has to have a lean body to have a natural conception. Especially, the fat accumulated in the abdomen, thighs, buttocks, and breasts will reduce your chances of getting a child, as there is no place for the baby to grow when these places are filled with fat. The natural system of the body is such that it will not ovulate, if fat accumulation is there in these parts. Hence, one has to reduce the fat to have a healthy baby. The doctors who suggest clomefene citrate as a drug to enhance ovulation does the same. It melts the fat in the abdomen, there by, ovulation is triggered. One can deal with the infertility through Yoga by practicing certain specific Asanas as mentioned in the Book by Swamy Satyananda Saraswati.

These are Vajrasana, Shashankasana, Marjari asana, Chakrasana, Sarpasana series ( such as Bhujangasana, Tiryak Bhujangasana, Poorna Bhujangasana etc.),  Oordhwa Hastana, kati chakrasana, udarakarshana asana, Sarvangasana, Pranayama (Anuloma & Viloma), Ardha Shalabhasana, Shalabhasana, Saral Dhanurasana, Poorna Dhanurasana, Kndharasana etc. These Asanas are highly beneficial to women and should be practiced under the guidance of a Yogic expert. Within two months of regular practice, one will get the good and positive result.

In India, many women after the age of 45 achieved good results. All the hormonal problems, irregular cycles etc. are  regularised and this resulted in a positive result. The overall health is also improved. Yoga teachers such as Shri.Vinay Roy from Hyderabad, India have designed specific Asanas to suit the specific requirement of women. Many women have benefitted under his guidance

Banksy Does The Simpsons

Banksy is, let’s be honest here, vaguely amusing but ultimately, irritating as piles. He’s the art-world’s Bono, constantly asking us to look at ourselves like we’re brain-dead scum. Of course, fans of his will claim a moral victory because he’s managed to put into his work what they couldn’t say in words. Or, more realistically, they like to be seen to care about… y’know… stuff.

And with his fame, Banksy has managed to make a decent living out of being unknown. He’s done pieces in war-torn areas, New Orleans and various famous landmarks, all the while, telling us how we’re hopeless consumers, willing to lap-up anything we’re told… then selling a shed-load of books.

And now, he’s managed to land the gig of creating the title sequence of The Simpsons. And it’s oh-so bloody controversial.

The intro was shown in the US last night and opens with the graffiti artist’s tag doodled all  over Springfield. That’s all well and good.

Then comes the controversial part.

It switches from the Simpson family’s living room to a massive sweatshop, with depressed looking workers in an austere warehouse painting cartoon cells and making Simpsons merchandise, filled with dead animals and blah blah.

Amusingly enough, this weak-wristed attack on mass-production will no doubt end up on a Simpson’s DVD at some point, made in some unpleasant warehouse somewhere. That’s nice isn’t it? It’s like Radiohead advising their fans cycle to their shows while jetting around the world in planes fuelled by rocking horse shit.

Apparently, this extended intro was inspired by reports that the show outsources the bulk of their animation to a company in South Korea.

Banksy has stated that his storyboard led to delays, disputes over broadcast standards and a threatened walk out by the animation department.

Then, Al Jean, The Simpsons executive producer, showed Banksy how to be funny by dismissing the furore with:

“This is what you get when you outsource.”

ZING!

The episode, called MoneyBart, will be shown in the UK on 21st October or, if you’re cod-political, you’ll get it on a torrent.

Here’s the intro.

Leona Gage, Miss USA , Dies

Leona Gage, who in 1957 was named Miss USA but had the title taken from her the next day when pageant officials learned she was married and a mother of two, has died. She was 71.

Gage died of heart failure Tuesday at Sherman Oaks Hospital, said her son Rob Kaminer.

She was married and had her second child when she was 16, all forbidden for a pageant contestant. She also told pageant officials she was 21, but she was 18.

"It's both an accomplishment and a tragedy. She had mixed feelings about the whole thing," Kaminer told The Times on Saturday.

Gage, who was born in Texas in 1939, represented Maryland at the Miss USA pageant held in Long Beach in July 1957. In a Times article after losing the title, Gage said she entered the Maryland contest hoping it would lead to work as a model.

"We needed money desperately," she said in 1957. "I didn't expect to win and when I did I was told I would be sent to Long Beach for the Miss Universe contest [then held immediately after the Miss USA competition], I went to the sponsor of the Maryland contest and told him I couldn't go because I was married.

"He told me to forget that I told him I was married and to come out here and keep my mouth shut."

Pageant officials in Baltimore denied they knew she was married.

Her son called it "a cautionary tale.… She entered the contest because she needed the money.… She was only 18 years old and you only complete the seventh grade and you have men pushing and pulling at you. I definitely know she was influenced by the people around her at the time. It's a very powerful influence."

He said Gage had lived in Southern California since the 1960s and became extremely private later in life "because she wasn't the person people remembered." He said she suffered from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, a progressive condition that makes it hard to breathe.

Gage made many television appearances after losing the title, including a highly rated one on the "Ed Sullivan Show." With the attention came hate mail.

"I think one half of the U.S. hated me," she told the Baltimore Sun in 2005.

Gage had difficult years after losing the title.

"When you're 18 years old and you're the most beautiful girl in the room … and then you're 50 and you're on oxygen and you haven't taken the time to develop yourself in other areas, what are you left with?" Kaminer said. His mother was "really preyed on by men from an early age.… you understand the type of trauma that represents," he said.

In addition to Kamimer, who lives in Scottsdale, Ariz., Gage is survived by two other sons, David Ennis of Tyrone, Ga., and Nicholas Covacevich of Los Angeles; and three grandchildren.
