Karen Owen Powerpoint Presentation

Karen Owen powerpoint presentation has gone viral and caused embarrassment to herself, her university (Duke University) and the subjects of the presentation. She had made a presentation about her sexual encounters with the members of university’s Lacrosse team. She had ranked them by a bar graph.

Karen Owen powerpoint presentation is comprised of 42 slides showing her sexual encounters in cars and library. The presentation is sure to serve as a serious blow to the Lacrosse team that had hardly surfaced from a past scandal. It has also served to increase parental concerns about internet safety. A lot many people are questioning the free use of internet by students who usually post inadequate material on the web without deliberating about the after affects.

The subjects of her presentation are harassed by her work. It has not thrilled them and Karen now feels sorry for them especially for the one who has got the lowest rating.

Karen Owen powerpoint presentation is assembled in the manner a scholar compiles his/her thesis. Karen has described the presentation as a thesis in “horizontal academics”. She alone knows about her intentions behind the creation of this infamous presentation, but she had not intended to educate millions through it. She had selected 3 friends to share this presentation but they pushed the forward button to contaminate the web.

Karen’s skills have impressed some publishers and they are interested in engaging her in writing a book because of her fresh and new style depicting her smartness. An editor from Harper-Collins has found her style as funny and interesting.

Carly Henley The Mysterious Death

The cause of Carly Henley death is still not known. Apparently she had committed suicide. However looking at the shinning prospects in the music industry it is hard to believe that she wanted to end her life. Her body was discovered by a passer by in a stairwell near Phi-Delta-Theta fraternity. Someone from the fraternity called 911.

Carly Henley had made accounts on facebook, my space and twitter. She has many musical videos on the youtube. Her twitter messages are mostly positive and reflect her nature and love for music. She had a passion for singing and was a member of Delta-Gamma-Sorority.

The Seattle police are investigating the matter. The autopsy of Henley was scheduled for Thursday and the medical examiner has attributed her death to “asphyxiation due to hanging”. Her family has pledged privacy.

Henley was a pretty young woman with a pleasant personality. Her photos and videos portray Henley as a cheerful person. A lot of people have offered condolences over Carly Henley death on social network pages.

Henley was currently studying at Washington University. She had graduated from ‘Highline high school’ two years earlier. Earlier Dwight Clark a student of WU had disappeared on 26th September. His dead body was recovered in log pond. Carly Henley death is the 2nd instance where a student of WU has died of un-natural causes.

Police have ruled out the involvement of any member of ‘Delta-Gamma-Sorority’ in the accident. Henley has left her videos on the web and she was really a delight to watch.

John Lennon

John Lennon has been forever 40 for 30 years now. He may be gone from this place, no thanks to a deranged fan's deadly bullet on Dec. 8, 1980, but through his musical legacy, it's like he never left.

Especially this year, for what would have been the big seven-oh tomorrow, Oct. 9, he's all over the place. It seems fans around the world want to join in the celebration.

Leading the festivities are EMI, his record label, and Yoko Ono, Lennon's widow. They got together on a massive catalog restoration project tagged the "Gimme Some Truth" campaign, titled after the bristling track from Lennon's 1971 "Imagine" album.

Using the latest audio technology, EMI and Ono remastered Lennon's eight solo albums, from 1970's "John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band" to "Milk and Honey," recorded in 1980 but unreleased until 1984.

The label also commissioned a stripped-down remix of the couple's Grammy-winning No. 1 "Double Fantasy" album from 1980 and three new compilations - the two-CD "Power to the People: The Hits," the four-CD "Gimme Some Truth," and the 11-CD "John Lennon Signature Box."

All those new releases landed in retail and virtual stores Tuesday.

"In this very special year, which would have seen my husband and life partner John reach the age of 70, I hope that this remastering/reissue program will help bring his incredible music to a whole new audience," Ono said.

"By remastering 121 tracks spanning his solo career, I hope also that those who are already familiar with John's work will find renewed inspiration from his incredible gifts as a songwriter, musician and vocalist and from his power as a commentator on the human condition," she said.

"His lyrics are as relevant today as they were when they were first written, and I can think of no more appropriate title for this campaign than those simple yet direct words, ‘Gimme Some Truth,'" Ono said.

The solo reissues are packaged in cardboard "digi-sleeve" slipcases replicating the original album art, with extra photos and new liner notes by noted British music journalist Paul Du Noyer.

The titles are:
• "John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band" (1970)
• "Imagine" (1971)
• "Some Time in New York City" (1972)
• "Mind Games" (1973)
• "Walls and Bridges" (1974)
• "Rock 'n' Roll" (1975)
• "Double Fantasy: Stripped Down" (2010) / "Double Fantasy" (1980)
• "Milk and Honey" (1984)

"Double Fantasy: Stripped Down" is the 1980 "Album of the Year" "stripped down" to basic tracks and essential instrumentation, with Lennon's vocals unenhanced by the echo and other effects he usually used.

Jack Douglas and Ono, coproducers of the original 1980 mix with Lennon, remixed and produced "Stripped Down," which comes in an expanded two-CD and digital edition that pairs the new version with the remastered original mix.

The new titles are:
• "Power to the People: The Hits" gathers 15 of Lennon's best-known songs on a single disc, as well as an "Experience Edition" with additional content. Both versions are packaged in digi-sleeves with booklets including a new liner notes essay by Du Noyer.

• "Gimme Some Truth" presents 72 of his solo recordings on four thematic CD's packaged in a slipcase with rare photos and a new essay by American rock journalist and author Anthony DeCurtis, a longtime Rolling Stone contributing editor.
The "Working Class Hero" disc focuses on Lennon's socio-political songs; "Woman" presents songs of love; "Borrowed Time" features songs about life; and "Roots" reflects Lennon's rock 'n' roll influences.

• "The John Lennon Signature Box" is a deluxe 11-CD and digital collection of the eight remastered albums, plus a disc of 13 rare and previously unreleased home recordings and an EP of Lennon's non-album singles.

The box includes a collectible limited edition John Lennon art print and a hardbound book featuring rare photos,
artwork, collages, poetry, and new liner notes by DeCurtis, plus new essays by Ono, first son Julian Lennon and second son Sean Ono Lennon.

A series of special events on both coasts led up to the albums' release and Lennon's birthday.

• Sept. 16: Julian Lennon's first photo exhibition opened at the prestigious Morrison Hotel Gallery in New York City. Mentored by renowned photographer Timothy White, Julian has shown he has a creative eye and a promising future.

The packed gallery included Julian's mother, Cynthia Lennon, Yoko Ono, and John and Yoko's son Sean. It was the first time all four attended a public event. "CBS Sunday Morning" caught the moment they reunited and aired it in a segment about the exhibit on Oct. 3.

• Sept. 25: The "American Masters" documentary "LennoNYC" made its world premiere at the New York Film Festival. Produced by PBS in association with WNET.org, the film spotlights the native Liverpudlian's years in New York, from the time he and Ono moved there in August 1971 until his death.

Filmmaker Michael Epstein created the portrait through rare footage and exclusive interviews with Ono, producer Jack Douglas, favorite session drummer Jim Keltner and more.

"LennoNYC" premieres on PBS Nov. 22, but a trailer and extra interviews are posted now at pbs.org (search Lennon).

• Sept. 30: "Nowhere Boy," a film about Lennon's early years in Liverpool starring Aaron Johnson and directed by Sam Taylor-Wood, premiered on the West Coast. During intermission at the Egyptian Theatre, Rod Davis, Len Garry and Colin Hanton of The Quarrymen, Lennon's first band, performed. The film opens in theaters today.

• Oct. 1: The surviving Quarrymen also appeared at the opening of a new Lennon photo exhibit curated by Davis and Beatles historian Martin Lewis at the Mr. Music Head Gallery in Hollywood. Featuring rare photos from Lennon's childhood, "This Boy: John Lennon in Liverpool" runs through this weekend.

• Oct. 1: "Starting Over: The Making of John Lennon and Yoko Ono's ‘Double Fantasy'" was published by Gallery/Simon & Schuster. Rock author Ken Sharp takes readers inside the Hit Factory in this riveting, fast-paced oral history of the August-September 1980 sessions built on recent interviews with coproducer Jack Douglas, Ono, and all the main players, plus archival quotes from Lennon's final interviews.

• Oct. 1 & 2: Ono, the pioneering performance artist who shows no signs of slowing down at age 77, fronted a pair of "We're All Plastic Ono Band" concerts at the Orpheum Theater in downtown Los Angeles. Sean Ono Lennon was the musical director, the backing band was Yuka Honda and Cornelius (Keigo Oyamada, Shimmy Hirotaka Shimizu and Yuko Araki), and special guests included Iggy Pop, Thurston Moore and Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth, Perry Farrell, Carrie Fisher, Harper Simon and Lady Gaga.

• Oct. 3: "An Evening with Yoko Ono" at the Grammy Museum provided an opportunity for moderator Robert Santelli, the museum's executive director, and a small theater audience to ask Ono questions about Lennon, his music, the couple's life together, and what it all means today.

• Oct. 4: The Los Angeles City Council issued a proclamation and a resolution, both honoring Lennon for his cultural contributions to the city.

• Oct. 4: The "John Lennon: Songwriter" memorabilia exhibit opened at the Grammy Museum with Ono in the house. Included are hand-written song lyrics, original drawings, rare guitars including Lennon's Telecaster, an outfit from the "Sgt. Pepper" era, his "Double Fantasy" Grammy, a pair of his signature round wire-rimmed glasses, historic film footage, and an interactive in-the-studio display. "LennoNYC" also screened in its West Coast premiere.

• Oct. 5: The "Gimme Some Truth" remasters and compilations hit the bins at retail stores and online music outlets.

• Oct. 8-10: A week of birthday celebrations at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland climaxes this weekend with dedication of a time capsule packed with Lennon's post-Beatles recordings and fan contributions plus a film reel of highlights from The Beatles' and Lennon's Rock Hall inductions.

• Oct. 9: Cynthia and Julian Lennon will unveil a peace monument in Liverpool.

• Oct. 9: In Reykjavik, Iceland, Ono will perform again with the Plastic Ono Band, light the "Imagine Peace Tower" in Lennon's honor, and bury a time capsule to be opened in 2040 on what would be his 100th birthday.

• Oct. 9: Fans will gather at noon for a birthday vigil at Lennon's star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in front of the Capitol Tower at 1750 N. Vine St.

In his time, Lennon was quite the multimedia artist - illustrator, author, songwriter, singer, guitarist, piano player, filmmaker, stager of big events.

One can only imagine what he'd think about all this 70th birthday hoopla playing out at once on the radio, big and little screens - not to mention the Web, which didn't exist as we know it in 1980, or social media, which has exploded in popularity in the last couple of years.

The deeper one studies Lennon and his music, especially chronologically, the more one realizes what a complicated person he was, far more multi-dimensional than the "Beatle-turned-peacenik" tag the mainstream media slapped on him.

One could imagine Lennon would scoff that anyone would, or should, still give a flying [expletive deleted].

On the other hand, one could also see him enjoying the fact that so many people still do care, that a lot of his music stands up, and that so many young people still find his music and story compelling now.

He often talked about making music in the moment, songs that reflected what he was thinking and going through at the time. Many of the moments he froze in time are now timeless.

"I think there's going to be a lot of discussion of John, and that's a good thing," DeCurtis said on the phone from New York. "This anniversary provides an opportunity to revisit a figure who is of major importance. People talk about times like this - oh, well, they're just flogging the catalog or whatever they're doing - but I honestly think the (catalog campaign serves) a cultural purpose.

"Somebody like John Lennon is so central, not only to music, but so many aspects of what contemporary culture is," DeCurtis said. "I know my own thoughts and feelings about him have deepened and grown more complex and more powerful over the years, and I think that for most everyone who cares about him, who takes the time to gauge the films and hear the music again, it's going to happen again."

Liu Xiaobo’s Nobel Peace Prize

In only a few hours, word will come from Oslo and the world will know whether or not this year’s Nobel Peace Prize winner is Chinese activist and author Liu Xiaobo, currently serving an eleven-year prison sentence for “subverting state authority.” Speculation about Liu’s odds  has been running at a fever pitch this week, so much so that Irish bookmaker Paddy Power made an early payout to those who had put money on Liu by Tuesday. Authorities in Beijing, however, have made it clear that this is one international prize that China doesn’t want to win.

For more about Liu Xiaobo, his work, and his Nobel nomination, Jeff Wasserstrom interviewed Jean-Philippe Béja of the Paris-based Centre for International Studies and Research. Béja is author of A la recherche d’une ombre chinoise. Le mouvement pour la démocratie en Chine (1919-2004) and “The Massacre’s Long Shadow,” which appeared last year in the Journal of Democracy.

JW: What do you consider Liu Xiaobo’s most powerful essay? Or, to put it another way, if we were to direct our readers to one or two pieces that would give them a sense of his ideas and style of argument, what would they be?

JPB: I would certainly direct them to read “猪的哲学” (“The Philosophy of the Pig”), where he describes how the elites let themselves be bought by the regime after the Tiananmen massacre. It is a very lucid analysis of the social contract proposed by Deng Xiaoping after his Southern tour. Another one is the speech he gave when he received the prize of the 民主教育基金会 (Chinese Democracy Education Foundation), in which he emphasizes one of his most constant positions: by living in truth, it will be possible to change a regime which is based on lies. This is his most Havelian speech, which illustrates his deepest convictions. When many Chinese intellectuals were abandoning ethics in order to be “modern”, Liu Xiaobo always insisted on the value of ethics.

Finally, if your readers want to know more about the way he became the “black horse” of literary circles, they should read the article 危机 (“Crisis”) he published in the 深圳青年报 (Shenzhen Youth Daily) in 1986.

JW: Were you surprised when it became clear how seriously his candidacy for this prize was being taken?

JPB: Yes quite, because in the course of the years, I have noticed that Westerners very rarely understand the value of Chinese intellectuals. But, of course, Central and Eastern Europeans are different, because they have gone through a comparable experience. Václav Havel perfectly understands the situation of Liu Xiaobo, and he knows the courage which is required to stand up as he always did.

JW: Were you surprised that the Beijing government tried to get involved in the Nobel Prize process, or did this strike you as quite predictable, given the things China’s leaders have done in the past (like trying to keep Dai Qing from speaking at last year’s Frankfurt Book Fair)?

JPB: It did strike me as predictable. The Chinese leaders always blast the NGOs or the Western governments who comment on Chinese affairs, accusing them of “hurting the feelings” of 1.3 billion Chinese, but they seize all the opportunities to try and influence their partners on the international scene.

JW: Can you tell our readers something about Liu Xiaobo, as a political figure or simply as a person, since in a recent article in the Guardian you are described as one of his friends?

JPB: I admire Liu Xiaobo’s courage and determination. He is a very mild person, his analyses are always quite rational, and, for example, he has always refused to judge the political situation in function of his personal position. Let me explain. At the time he was followed everywhere by two or three plainclothes policemen, when they prevented him from leaving his home, even to buy food, he would acknowledge the progress that was accomplished, congratulating himself of the greater space for society to express its opinions. Personally, he likes discussions, he can be very tough and we often argued about how to analyse some political situations. But our disagreements never had any consequences on our friendship. Liu Xiaobo is a 东北人 (Northeasterner) and, despite his strong criticism of Chinese tradition, he has a deep sense of 义气 (loyalty).

Dorothy Dandridge Biography
Dorothy Jean Dandridge was born in Cleveland, Ohio on November 9, 1922. Under the prodding of her mother, Dorothy and her sister began performing publicly usually in black Baptist churches throughout the country. Her mother, an entertainer herself, would often join her daughters on stage. As the depression worsened, Dorothy and her family picked up and moved to Los Angeles where they had hopes of finding better work, perhaps in film. Her first film was in the Marx Brothers comedy, A Day at the Races (1937). It was only a bit part but Dorothy had hopes that it would blossom into something better. But because she was a black woman in a very prejudiced society, she didn’t land the roles that were readily available to her white counterparts. She did not appear in another film until 1940 in Four Shall Die (1940). The role was nothing great other than to establish the fact that she was very beautiful and talented. Her next few roles in the early forties included films such as Bahama Passage (1941), Drums of the Congo (1942), and Hit Parade of 1943 (1943). There were others in between, of course, but they were the usual black stereotypical films for women such as Dorothy. Not only was she a talented actress but she could also sing which was evident in films such as Atlantic City (1944) and Pillow to Post (1945). This helped to showcase her talents as a singer and brought her headline acts in the nation’s finest hotel nightclubs in New York, Miami, Chicago, and Las Vegas. She may have been allowed to sing in these fine hotels, but because of racism, she couldn’t stay there. It was reported that one hotel drained its swimming pool to keep her from enjoying that little amenity. In 1954, Dorothy appeared in the all-black production of Carmen Jones (1954) in the title role. She was so superb in that picture that she garnered an Academy Award nomination but lost out to Grace Kelly in The Country Girl (1954). Despite the nomination for her performance, Dorothy did not get another movie until she appeared in Tamango (1958) which was an Italian film. She was to make six more motion pictures, of which Island in the Sun (1957) and Porgy and Bess (1959) were worthy of mention. Once again she was a standout. The last movie she would ever play would be in 1961’s The Murder Men (1961). Dorothy faded quickly after that with a poor second marriage to Jack Denison (her first was to Harold Nicholas), poor investments, other financial woes, and a problem with alcohol. She was found dead in her West Hollywood apartment on September 8, 1965, the victim of a barbiturate poisoning. She was only 42. Had she been born 20 years later, Dorothy Dandridge would no doubt be one of the most well-known actresses in film history.

Tim Lincecum

A freakin' bad call by the second base umpire and a freak on the mound spoiled the Braves return to the postseason. Tim Lincecum only needed one run to dominate and completely shut down the Braves anemic offense and get the win for the Giants. The two-time Cy Young winner struck out 14 Braves hitters in his first postseason game, while only allowing two doubles and a walk.

The real sour grapes was that the Braves pitching was also really good tonight, and a blown call allowed the Giants to score their only run. Buster Posey singled in the fourth and stole second, but replays showed he was clearly out. That missed call was huge for both teams as Posey came around to score the game's only run on a single that seemed to go right through Omar Infante's glove -- another missed defensive opportunity for the Braves.

The Braves bullpen kept the Giants at bey after Lowe pitched really well through the first five and a third innings. Yes the bad call at second base was a killer, but the Braves were swinging wildly at anything Lincecum threw near the plate, and their defense didn't do a good job of backing up Lowe. The problem of lack of offense and poor defense for the Braves late in the season plagues this team in the first game of the postseason. Braves must find an answer for these two problems, and fast.

Tree Man

32 year old Dede lives in a remote village in Indonesia with his two children, trying to care for them. Dede, a former fisherman, has an extraordinary skin condition: he has root like structures growing out of his body – branches that can grow up to 5cm a year and which protrude from his hands and feet, and welts covering his whole body.

He is known locally as ‘Tree Man’ and his condition has baffled local doctors for 20 years. In an attempt to earn a living to support his family, he is part of a circus troupe, displaying his Tree Man limbs along with others afflicted with skin deformities in ‘freak’ shows.

Dr Anthony Gaspari, a world expert in skin conditions from the University of Maryland travels to Indonesia to attempt to diagnosis Dede’s mysterious condition. He takes skin samples for biopsies back in the USA. What will he discover?

We go on an intimate journey with the extraordinary Dede, as he tries to eek out a living in a circus troupe to support his family, and as he is given medical help by Dr Gaspari. The identification and possible cure of his condition, could change his whole life.

Half way across the world, in Romania, farmer Ion Toader is discovered to have a similar extraordinary ‘Tree Man’ condition, with growths all over his hands. He has not been able to drive a tractor for five years. A Romanian surgeon offers to give him an operation to remove his growths.

Will it be successful, and how will it change Ion’s life?

Nobel Peace Prize

(CNN) -- The 2010 Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded to Liu Xiaobo, a leading Chinese dissident who is serving an 11-year prison term, the Norwegian Nobel Committee announced Friday.

Liu was sentenced in 2009 to 11 years in prison for inciting subversion of state power. He is the co-author of Charter 08, a call for political reform and human rights, and was an adviser to the student protesters at Tiananmen Square in 1989.

Liu's wife, Liu Xia, told CNN she could not wait to visit him in prison in northern China and tell him the news. She said Friday she was packing under the surveillance of police officers who have promised to take her to visit her husband the next day.

"I am totally shocked and feel so happy," she said. "I've never dreamed about this. Friends have asked me to prepare for a speech, but I've only prepared one for Xiaobo not winning the prize."

Liu Xia said she regretted her husband couldn't share the moment with her. She said he will feel "surprised and humbled" to find out, but also feel "a greater sense of responsibilities" because of the great honor.

"It's an affirmation of what he has fought for," she said.

His lawyer, Shang Baojun, said the win may mean Liu will have to spend longer in prison.

"I hope that he'd be released earlier because of the prize, but in reality, that will not happen," Shang told CNN.

The human rights group Amnesty International called on the Chinese government to release all "prisoners of conscience" following the win.

"Liu Xiaobo is a worthy winner of the Nobel Peace Prize. We hope it will keep the spotlight on the struggle for fundamental freedoms and concrete protection of human rights that Liu Xiaobo and many other activists in China are dedicated to," said Catherine Baber, the deputy Asia-Pacific director at Amnesty International.

"This award can only make a real difference if it prompts more international pressure on China to release Liu, along with the numerous other prisoners of conscience languishing in Chinese jails for exercising their right to freedom of expression."

It was unclear whether Liu Xiaobo had learned of his prize from prison, but he was the favorite of many around the world to win.

"From my personal angle, I feel in a dictatory society if you want to be a person with dignity, if you want to be a honest person, fight for human-rights improvement, fight for free speech, being ... [in prison] is part of what you are undertaking, and there is nothing to complain," he told CNN in 2007, while he was between a series of house arrests.

"Since you chose to do this, you must have a preparation for being in prison," he said. "Entering the prison you must face these things peacefully, not complain [about] others. I even don't complain [about those ... who arrested me, because this is their inevitable action. I can also not let them arrest me if I chose other way."

Liu's name and the term "Nobel Prize" were censored on the Twitter micro-blogging site, but users still managed to react to the award.

"I am so excited when I heard this news! Finally good people is recognized by the world!" wrote one Twitter user.

"They censored what I've just posted on micro blog! Can you really stop people in this Internet age!" wrote another.

At least two foreign television networks -- CNN and BBC -- were temporarily blacked out as the Norwegian Nobel Committee announced the winner.

Residents in the country were once again able to see CNN coverage when the announcement ended and the channel returned to regular programming.

His sentencing prompted a groundswell of support for him from former Peace Prize laureates and perennial contenders.

Vaclav Havel, the hero of Czechoslovakia's 1989 Velvet Revolution (who never won the Nobel Prize), retired South African Archbishop Desmond Tutu (who did, in 1984), and the Dalai Lama (1989) were among a group of intellectuals who publicly urged the Nobel Committee to give the prize to Liu shortly after he was sentenced.

American writer Kwame Anthony Appiah, the head of the American PEN center, a literary and human rights organization, nominated Liu in January, he said.

The Wall Street Journal reported in February that Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Ma Zhaoxu said it would be "totally wrong" for "such a person" to win the Nobel Peace Prize, and that the comment was later scrubbed from the official transcript of the briefing.

The Irish bookmaker Paddy Power had already paid out on bets for Liu to win the prize, it announced Wednesday, after a surge in betting led it to suspect that information had leaked.

"It is people's affirmation of his 20 years' work," Liu's wife, Liu Xia, told CNN in September in response to his nomination. "It means many people in the world believe that China needs change in its political system and people's freedom of speech," she said in Chinese.

Of his condition in prison, she said, "He is doing OK spiritually and physically. The hospital has been giving him stomach pills. His stomach is not very good. They also said he might have some problem with his liver, hepatitis B maybe. I worried about it. He reads, runs, and writes every day. He runs one hour every day.

"There is nothing else we can do. The judicial procedure is to the end already," she said.

"I know that some friends wish Liu Xiaobo to win this award more urgently than himself," she added. "They believe it is an opportunity for China to change."
