Rick Sanchez Fired

Rick Sanchez Fired – Rick Sanchez CNN Twitter Account Not Updated  – Rich Sanchez has been fired from CNN after he made a number of inappropriate comments during a recent radio show appearance. He was appearing on his radio talk show that is called “Rick’s List.” While on the program he called “The Daily Show’s” Jon Stewart a “bigot” and took shots at a number of other political analysts and news anchors.

Almost immediately after the comments took place, MSNBC analysts took to Twitter where he said that he expected that Sanchez would be fired for making the comments. CNN didn’t want to blow the incident out of proportion, but did decide to relieve Rick of his duties at the station.

They wished him well in their goodbye statement and thanked him for his loyal service to the company. This was not the first time that Sanchez had made brash comments in a public forum and had been reprimanded for it. Once he even referred to President Barack Obama as “cotton-picking.”

CNN has not named a replacement for Sanchez, who quickly retracted his statement and corrected himself, instead calling Stewart “prejudiced.” He should have known better, really. After the previous problems that he has had with CNN and some of the comments that he has made on his program, he had to have known that he was walking on thin ice. It will be interesting to see where Sanchez goes next. FOX News would seemingly make a good home for the right winged political analysts, but there have been no reports of interest from FOX.

bigot

CNN anchor Rick Sanchez reeeeeally doesn't like Jon Stewart.

On Peter Dominick's radio show yesterday, Sanchez said he thinks that "Jon Stewart is a bigot" against "anybody who doesn't agree with his point of view, which is very much a white liberal establishment point of view."

Dominick, a former warm-up comic on The Daily Show, asked Sanchez to elaborate, and he said: "I think he looks at the world through, his mom, who was a school teacher, and his dad, who was a physicist or something like that. Great, I'm so happy that he grew up in a suburban middle class New Jersey home with everything that you could ever imagine."

When Dominick asked who Stewart is bigoted against, Sanchez replied: "Everybody else who's not like him. Look at his show, I mean, what does he surround himself with?"

Dominick joked that Sanchez's comments would probably go viral, which caused Sanchez to backtrack, kind of, calling The Daily Show "essentially prejudicial."

"They minimize you, and treat you like you don't matter," Sanchez continued, later adding: "I am a complex human being. I am not some moron."

But, he claimed, Stewart "wouldn't pick on me if I didn't matter."

When Dominick pointed out that Stewart is Jewish, Sanchez wasn't buying it: "Just because someone's Jewish, they're not capable of being prejudicial?"

He added:

I'm telling you that everybody who runs CNN is a lot like Stewart, and a lot of people who run all the other networks are a lot like Stewart, and to imply that somehow they, the people in this country who are Jewish, are an oppressed minority? Yeah.

Sanchez did say that he understands that "historically" Jews have been discriminated against, but that "I can't see somebody not getting a job somewhere because they're Jewish. Not in this day and age."

Comedy Central and Pete Dominick had no comment on Sanchez's remarks. CNN did not immediately respond to TPM's request for comment.

Late Update: CNN tells TPM it will have a comment on this "later today."

Here's the audio. Most of the good stuff is in the first 8 minutes, but the whole thing is pretty incredible:

h/t Mediate.

You've gotta wonder if maybe Sanchez is just angry that Stewart frequently uses him as a punching bag. Stewart once dedicated an entire segment to it, saying: "Rick Sanchez delivers the news like a guy at a party who's doing a lot of coke and traps you in a corner and explains really intensely how an ant is the strongest animal on earth."

Rick Sanchez Jon Stewart

Well, that was fast: Rick Sanchez’s sharp tongue has driven the outspoken political pundit out of a cozy job.

On Friday, CNN fired anchor Rick Sanchez following a radio rant Thursday night, during which he called TV rival Jon Stewart a “bigot,” blamed CNN brass for discrimination against him, and insinuated that the media industry is controlled by “Jews.”

The network announced Sanchez’s dismissal in a statement issued this evening:

“Rick Sanchez is no longer with the company. We thank Rick for his years of service and we wish him well,“ the statement read.

During a 55-minute interview on Sirius Satellite’s Pete Dominick Show, Sanchez hit back at being made fun of constantly on the hit Comedy Central series The Daily Show and The Colbert Report.

Sanchez was supposed to be promoting his new book Conventional Idiocy, but instead spent a lot of time talking about race, media balance, objectivity, and of course, Jon Stewart.

“I think to some extent Jon Stewart and [Stephen] Colbert are the same way. I think Jon Stewart’s a bigot,” he said. “I think he looks at the world through, his mom, who was a school teacher, and his dad, who was a physicist or something like that. Great, I’m so happy that he grew up in a suburban middle class New Jersey home with everything you could ever imagine.”

Sanchez also mocked the suggestion that Jews are a minority. Stewart is Jewish.

“Yeah,” Sanchez retorted sarcastically at Dominick’s suggestion that as a Jew Jon may also be familiar with oppression. “Very powerless people… [snickers] He’s such a minority, I mean, you know [sarcastically]… Please, what are you kidding? … I’m telling you that everybody who runs CNN is a lot like Stewart, and a lot of people who run all the other networks are a lot like Stewart, and to imply that somehow they — the people in this country who are Jewish — are an oppressed minority? Yeah.”

The network will broadcast CNN Newsroom in Sanchez’s 3PM-5PM timeslot. for the foreseeable future.

CNN released this statement today:

“Rick Sanchez is no longer with the company. We thank Rick for his years of service and we wish him well.“

They will broadcast CNN Newsroom from 3-5pm for the foreseeable future.

Here’s more from the story earlier today:

CNN’s Rick Sanchez is not happy with being made fun of constantly on The Daily Show and Colbert Report. It is from this jumping off point that he absolutely unleashed on Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert, and at times his own network, on Pete Dominick’s satellite radio show yesterday.

The big takeaway – Sanchez calls Stewart “a bigot,” then walks it back a bit, and he implies CNN is run by Jews.

Dominick was not just a radio show host – he is a CNN contributor who has a regular gig on John King, USA (more on that below), and he formerly was the warm up comic at The Daily Show. Which is why when Sanchez says “I think Jon Stewart’s a bigot” early in the interview, Dominick pushed back:

Dominick: How is he a bigot?
Sanchez: I think he looks at the world through, his mom, who was a school teacher, and his dad, who was a physicist or something like that. Great, I’m so happy that he grew up in a suburban middle class New Jersey home with everything you could ever imagine.
Dominick: What group is he bigoted towards?
Sanchez: Everybody else who’s not like him. Look at his show, I mean, what does he surround himself with?

According to a recent article by Meg G at associatedcontent.com, the actress was speaking about her recent Harpers Baazar photo shoot at the time, when Regis asked her a question on how she got herself into the mood to embody Barbara Streisand for the photos.

Aniston’s reply was that she plays dress up for a living like a retard. This “slip” is the exact thing that has a lot of people talking. You can read more via associatedcontent.com. What do you think of Jennifer using the word “retard”?
